62 in Friendship remains closed
|
Wanda
English Burnett
Editor
The
closure of State Road 62 at the east entrance
to Friendship has caused quite a stir in the community.
It is a hassle for motorists coming into the small
town from Dearborn County, and those needing to
exit that way.
However, the Indiana Department of Transportation
remains firm that repairing the sliding hillside
and the road is imperative for the safety of motorists.

Packed

shoot
|
Kari
Moore
Staff Writer
I owe it to these people,
this is a wonderful place to work, Carol
Iceberg, Friendship Postmaster told the Osgood
Journal after the community held an informative
meeting with Postal Service representatives
Monday, September 12. The meeting was held
at the Friendship Fire Hall and was well attended
despite the National Muzzle Loading Rifle
Association Shoot going on.
Andrew Glancey, operations manager for Area
3 for the United States Postal Service (USPS)
spoke with Friendship patrons about the Friendship
Post Office being one of 3,700 post offices
being reviewed for closure. Bob Redden, District
Discontinuance Coordinator, would normally
be the representative at the meeting, but
was on vacation so Glancey took over for him.
A similar meeting was held in Pierceville
in August for their post office review, with
both Glancey and Redden in attendance.

New
York seemed so far away ten years ago when the
reports of terrorist attacks came flooding across
television and into the newsroom. That was then.
Soon after Ripley County residents would feel
the impact with Col. Canfield Boone losing his
life in the Pentagon where he worked. Boone was
a 1966 graduate of Milan High School where he
was known to his classmates, friends and family
as Buddy.
Patrick Rose who now resides in Osgood, was in
New York at the time of the terrorist attacks
on September 11, 2001. He was at the scene shortly
after the initial attacks on the Twin Towers serving
with the NY National Guard 101 Cavalry out of
Staten Island.

firemen invite the public to aday of remembrance
and celebration
|
Wanda
English Burnett
Editor
The tragic loss of thousands of lives on
September 11, 2001, touched the lives of
every American. But, it impacted a community
of firefighters, EMS workers, and police
officers even more when their brothers and
sisters lost their lives trying to save
those who were dying in the towering infernos
of the twin towers in New York City.
We watched our fellow brothers and
sisters die, noted Osgood fireman
Kyle Negangard, as he talked about the true
impact the events had on emergency personnel
across the country. He talked about the
brotherhood and sisterhood firemen have.
This Sunday will mark ten years since the
tragic events unfolded that had everyone
glued to their television sets. Then we
did not know the true mark the events would
leave on our world or what would unfold
thereafter.
