Edna Carolyn Margaret Smith
Edna Carolyn Margaret Smith, 99, of Milan, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Waters of Batesville. She was born near Bear Creek in Switzerland County on January 22, 1918, the daughter of William C. and Amelia (Wehmeyer) Meyer. She was married to Howard Smith on June 22, 1941 and her husband of seventy years preceded her in death on June 6, 2012.
Survivors include three sons, Howard (Marlene) Smith, Jr. of Harrison, Ohio, Jerry (Shirley) Smith of Milan, and Larry (Ileene) Smith of Monroe, Michigan; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one brother Robert (Darlene) Meyer of Dillsboro; one sister Pauline Block of Milan. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Herman and Carl Meyer, a sister Irma Klusman, and granddaughters Amanda Smith and Heather Smith.
Mrs. Smith was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Dewberry on May 8, 1932 where she was a life-long member. Edna played the organ for the St. Paul congregation for 75 years. She was a stay at home mom and enjoyed volunteering at nursing homes, reading, and playing the organ. She also enjoyed quilting and cross stitch.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 19 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Juan Luna officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Church or St. Paul’s Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karstetter Funeral Home in Versailles.
Henry Thomas Arthur
Henry Thomas Arthur, 78, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at UC Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tom was born Wednesday, September 28, 1938 in Pierceville, the son of James and Clara (Brunner) Malcolm. He married Sharon (Dudley) Arthur November 21, 1978 and she survives.
He worked at Campbell Hausfeld for many years. He enjoyed gardening, cutting grass, fishing, boating, cooking, camping, helping people and doing mechanics. His greatest passion was spending time with his family.
Tom is survived by wife: Sharon Arthur of Versailles; children: Tom Arthur of New Point; Albert (Debbie) Arthur of Milan; David Arthur and companion Lura of Scottsburg; Tim Arthur of Cincinnati and companion Cathy of Milan; Barb (Ron Sr.) Bruns of Patriot; Mel Lynch of Versailles; Chris Arthur and companion Donna of Westport; Jeff (Jen) Arthur of Versailles; April (Kenny) Arthur of Cleves; 25 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, one child: Mary Arthur, two sisters, two brothers.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral home with Pastor Matthew Bruns officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-7 p.m. also at the funeral home. Clarence W. Magers, 65, of Milan, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 23 beginning at 2:00 at the Magers’ home. Mabel Deaton
Mabel Deaton, 99, of Milan, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Mabel was born Sunday, March 10, 1918 in Gays Creek, KY, the daughter of Harlan and Elizabeth (Begley) Hacker. She married Joe R. Deaton February 3, 1937 and he preceded her in death August 20, 1991.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church on the Rock Assembly of God. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Mabel is survived by sons: James (Mary) Deaton and Joe Jr. (Sharon) Deaton both of Milan; seven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter: Joanie Deaton, three brothers and two sisters.
