Phyllis J. Crum


Phyllis J. Crum, age 89, of Milan, passed away early Friday, October 27, 2017 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born on March 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Henry and Ruby (Teegarden) Swift in Franklin County. She grew up in the countryside of Franklin County and was a graduate of Brookville High School.

After school she met Gene Crum and they were married on July 7, 1959. Upon their marriage, she moved to the Delaware community becoming a part of the legacy of Crum Farms. Early on she worked as a beautician, but can most be remembered working in the principal’s office of Milan Elementary School for over 30 years where she helped countless kids that struggled.

She was a dedicated member of Adams Lutheran Church for many years and served in various capacities. Phyllis enjoyed her family and neighbors throughout the years. She liked to watch her favorite TV shows American Pickers and found laughter in staying up and taking in the Jimmy Kimmel show. Gene and Phyllis enjoyed traveling to numerous locations over the years. Around the farm she grew various flowers, and even if they were struggling was always sure to make someone water them when she was gone!

Phyllis was preceded in death by husband Gene and daughter-in-law Melissa. She is survived by son Alan of Sunman and daughter Lori of Ashland, Ohio, sister Nelda of Brookville, along with six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2 from 5-8 p.m. at Adams Lutheran Church near Batesville. Funeral services will be held on Friday November 3 at 11 a.m. with doors opening at 10 a.m. also at the church. Memorials may be given to Adams Lutheran Church in care of Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood.


Rosemary L. Baer


Rosemary L. Baer, 71, of Indianapolis, formally of Aurora, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. on Friday, November 3 at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill. Visitation will be also be Friday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer Society. Ruth Ann (Federle) Gehl


Ruth Ann (Federle) Gehl, age 83, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Waters of Batesville. She was born on October 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Raver) Federle in Batesville. Ruth Ann was one of seven children that grew up in the Batesville Community. She was a graduate of Batesville High School.

After high school she met her future husband Phil Gehl and the two of them were united in marriage on July 7, 1962 and recently celebrated their 55th anniversary. Upon Phil’s completion of military service and his return home, they purchased a farm outside of Napoleon. This 80 acre farm is where they raised their family of five and will always be home. The two of them provided an environment for their children based on true values and honesty.

Ruth Ann was dedicated to being a homemaker for the vast majority of her life. She did spend 10 years working for the Jac-Cen-Del school system in the cafeteria. She enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it was a good card game or a social gathering. She had the great ability to start a conversation with anyone passing by.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Daniel, brothers Paul and Ralph Federle, and daughter-in-law Lisa (Riehle). Ruth Ann is survived by husband Phil, sons Tony (Ann) of Knoxville, TN, Jim (Rachel) of Batesville, Ron (Kathy) of St. George, KS, and daughter Mary (Courtney) Franke of Howe, along with brothers Ben (Howard) (Dot) of Batesville, Carl of Columbus and sisters Marlene (Joseph) Griewe of Batesville, and Joann (Anthony) Holzer of Mount Juliet, TN, along with 11 grandchildren and four step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon. All are invited to attend. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is entrusted with arrangements.


Billy W. Venters

Billy W. Venters, 77, of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 2 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home and also Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will follow in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, from 5-7:30 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Heart Association.
