Lauragene (Cutter) Filsell

Lauragene (Cutter) Filsell, age 74, of Versailles, entered this life on January 29, 1942, in Milan, daughter of the late, Clarence Robert and Aldean Irene (Cleeter) Cutter.

She was raised in Fairview and later moved to Abingdon, Virginia where she attended high school through her junior year. Lauragene moved back to Switzerland County, where she was a 1960 graduate of Vevay High School. She earned her bachelors in education in 1964 from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. Lauragene was united in marriage on July 10, 1965 in Evansville to the late, Donald Ray Wittmer and to this union arrived two daughters, Laura and Laurene to bless their home.

She earned her masters degree in education in 1966 from Indiana University in Bloomington. Lauragene was later united in marriage on September 22, 1984 at the Clifty Falls State Park in Madison, to the late, Bruce Edward Filsell. Lauragene and Bruce shared nearly 31 years of marriage together until he passed away on February 22, 2015. Lauragene was a former teacher for the Lawrenceburg High School in Lawrenceburg and for South Ripley High School where she taught English and Spanish, retiring in 1971. Lauragene was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church in Versailles. She resided the past 50 years in the Versailles community. Lauragene enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and will be remembered for her love of sewing, cooking and working crossword puzzles. Lauragene passed away at 7:50 am, Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Waters of Batesville in Batesville.

Survivors include daughters: Laura (Paul) Freese of Batesville, and Laurene Wittmer of North Vernon; grandsons: Justin Wittmer and Levi and Eli Freese; stepgrandsons: Eric and Kyle Freese; brothers: Arlen Cutter of Fairview, Denzil Cutter of Fairview, and Dean Cutter of Versailles, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents and husbands.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 11 a.m., by Rev. Dick Burcham, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay. Burial will be in the Vevay Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice. www.haskellandmorrison.com. Clara A. Hankins


Clara A. Hankins, 91, of Dillsboro passed away on Friday morning, July 15, 2016 at her residence. Clara was born Tuesday, August 19, 1924 in Ripley County, the daughter of Albert and Grace (Hehe) Frakes. She married Dale Hankins March 19, 1949 and he preceded her in death June 14, 2015. Clara was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, farming, cooking, canning, flowers embroidering, and her family time.

Clara is survived by children Randy Hankins of Holton, Jim (Bev) Hankins of Elrod, Cindy (Brian) Stemann of Dillsboro and Karen (Rod) Elswick of Madison; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandchildren Sharon and Dale Ehlers, her parents and her husband, Dale.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 18 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Pastor Ty Choate officiating. Burial followed in Green Cemetery near Elrod. Jean Stockdale Robbins Rowlett, age 73, of Hanover, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016. Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Burial was in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. Mary Nadine Higgins Spry Pruitt, age 89, of Madison, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016. Funeral services were held Monday, July 18 at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Teresa V. Schwab, 86, of Sunman, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Raymond Davis, Jr.

Raymond Davis Jr., age 80, of Batesville, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 16, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Batesville Ward. Meyers Funeral Home of Batesville is handling arrangements.


Charles “Charlie” H. Sizemore

Charles “Charlie” H. Sizemore, 82, of Holton, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born at the Barboursville, Kentucky on July 18, 1933, the son of Hansford and Beatrice Grills Sizemore. He was married to Grace Elston on November 11, 1993 in Carrollton, Kentucky and she survives. Other survivors include four sons: Greg of Osgood, Robert (Billi) of Versailles, Randy (Lisa) of Holton and Edward of Holton; stepson: Michael Parsons of Delphi; and stepdaughter: Shannon Feldcamp of Holton; 20 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters; Margaret English of Holton and Ruth Taylor of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Marvin, Leroy, Kenny, Carl and three infant siblings.

Charlie retired from Indiana State Highway Garage after 15 years. He had many loves other than his family, he truly enjoyed bowling, fishing, Nascar and especially the Reds and Bengals. Mr. Sizemore was an Army Veteran, who was stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1956.

Funeral services for Charlie will be on Thursday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jim Wingate officiating. Burial will be in the Little Memory Cemetery north of Milan. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 20 from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion in care of the funeral home.
