South Ripley Raiders ‘Rock the Knights Away’

With Mother Nature having the final say in when the 2016 South Ripley High School Homecoming game would actually occur, all ended well. On Thursday night, Feb. 12, suits, ties and gowns were the center court attraction with Raiders JV and Varsity Boys Basketball action against visiting South Dearborn Knights acting as bookends for the festive program.

Both SR teams won their game with the SR Varsity winning 83-65 and the SR JV winning 52-42. The introduction of Homecoming Prince and Princess candidates was made by senior Student Council President Mercedes Bowling. Freshman class representatives were David Hendrickson and Caitlyn Rees; sophomore class: Trey Winters and Kyla Isaacs; and junior class: Cory Walker and Donna Roberts. Junior Donna Roberts was crowned Princess with freshman David Hendrickson crowned Prince. Senior class King and Queen candidates included Brandon Ball and Ellie Ayers, Caleb Cumberworth and Kim Adkins, Wyatt Elston and Kayla Adkinson, Parker Jahnigen and Destini Parsons ,and Dylan McFarland and Kayla King. Named Queen was Kayla Adkinson with Brandon Ball crowned King.
Special presentation
A special SR jersey presentation was made by the South Ripley Raider Varsity Basketball Team on behalf of SRHS to Robert Garcia, a South Ripley School board member who had recently returned home from his third deployment serving overseas. He received a standing ovation from the crowd. He is happy to be home and ready to get on with the business of life on the home front as a husband, father, community steward, and Indiana State Police Officer. Welcome Home Robert!
