Milan Elementary School principal tapped to be supt.
The Milan school board did not have to look far to hire a new superintendent. Milan Community School Corporation board announced that Jane Rogers is the leading candidate for the superintendent’s job. The board has entered into contract negotiations with Rogers, current principal at Milan Elementary, with a public hearing on the contract scheduled for Nov. 7. A formal vote on her contract is expected to be made Nov. 14. If approved, Rogers contract as Milan superintendent will begin Jan. 1, 2017.

Rogers will replace outgoing superintendent Paul Ketcham who recently accepted a position as superintendent at Batesville Community Schools. Rogers has been with the Milan school corporation for 13 years serving as the elementary school principal. Under her direction the school has achieved 4 Star recognition and been named an A-rated school by the Indiana Dept. of Education. A graduate of South Ripley High School, Rogers holds an education specialist degree from Indiana State University and a superintendent’s license from the State of Indiana. She attained her bachelor of science and master of educational administration from Ball State University. Rogers comes from a family of educators. Her parents, Gus and Mary Margaret Moorhead were in education for 40 years, and mainly at South Ripley. At one time her siblings were all principals. Rob Moorhead is the current superintendent of South Ripley, Dr. Molly Moorhead, is a retired high school principal and Jody Moorhead, is an elementary principal in Florida. Jane and husband Jeff live in Versailles and have two grown children.
Early voting at courthouse
Ripley County Clerk Mary Ann McCoy wishes to remind the voters of Ripley County their normal polling location may vote absentee (or early) in the Election Room of the county courthouse. Voting hours are Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. now through Friday, Nov. 4. Additional hours are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Absentee voting may also be done via U.S. mail if one is unable to come to the courthouse to vote. The last day for the office to receive an absentee ballot application to vote by mail is Monday, Oct. 31. The office number is 812-689-4783 for those with questions.
BMV hours change for Election Day
Kent Abernathy, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), reminds Hoosiers that in advance of election day, BMV license branches will extend hours of operation on Monday, Nov. 7 and Tuesday, Nov. 8 to issue ID cards and driver’s licenses that may be used for identification at a polling place. All branches will be open on Monday, Nov. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. License branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID cards, and renewed, amended or replacement driver’s licenses and learner permits. New driver’s licenses and learner permits will be processed provided the customer has previously completed all required testing.
The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier that is a U.S. citizen as long as he or she can provide proper documentation and will be at least 18 years of age on or before the next General or Municipal Election.
The following documents are required to obtain a new state ID card or driver’s license (a complete list can be found at myBMV.com):
• Proof of Identity document, such as a birth certificate or passport
• Proof of Social Security document, such as a Social Security card, pay stub that contains the full SSN or W-2
• Proof of lawful status, such as a birth certificate or passport
• Proof of residency, two documents such as a voter registration card, utility bill or bank statement
All license branches will resume regular business hours Wednesday, Nov. 9.
