William Fred Francis
William Fred Francis, 72, of Elizabethtown, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born at Whitesburg in Letcher County, Kentucky, on March 28, 1944, the son of John W. and Purnia Sergent Francis. He was married to Candace Collins and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Tony Francis of Columbus; two daughters, Natalie (Jerry) Gilpin of Versailles and Kylie Francis of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Hazel (Dennis) Lemen of Zionsville and Nancy (Lee) Crocker of Waverly, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Francis was a 1962 graduate of Versailles High School and was a veteran of the US Navy where he served from 1968 to 1972. He was a 46-year employee of Cummins Engine in Columbus retiring in 2009 and attended the Elizabethtown United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Dixon of the Tyson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
