Rev. LaMar Brown
Pastor C. LaMar Brown, 73, of Milan, pastor of Milan Wesleyan Church, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, at his residence. LaMar was born Saturday, December 13, 1941 in Milton, Ky., the son of Cecil and Ruth (Jackson) Brown. He married his wife of 55 years Becky (Slack) Brown and she survives.
LaMar started his ministry at Wesleyan Church in Louisville, Ky. for eight years; then later to Elizabethtown, Ky. for three years; then to Lawrenceville, IL for 18 years; then Milan Wesleyan Church for 11 years. Pastor LaMar and his wife Becky Brown were missionaries for eight years in South America. LaMar was a member of the Milan Lions Club. He liked to collect coins, but his biggest passion was his family, and his church.
Pastor LaMar is survived by his wife Becky, son: Wesley (Lynette) Brown of Nashville, TN; daughter: Lisa Brown of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Sisters: Linda (Steve) Hudson of Wabash; LaDonna Kolter of Fischer; Geneva (Paul) Hairston of Louisville, Ky.; grandchild: Ashton Brown; a large church family and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 2 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home with Wesley Brown and Rev. Steve Hudson officiating. Burial will follow to New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Milan Lions Club service will be 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials may be made in his memory to Milan Lions Club. Grace E. Brown
Grace E. Brown, 93, of Vevay, formerly of Milan, born March 31, 1922, in Switzerland County, the daughter of the late, Thomas Emory and Prudie (Todd) Brown. She was a 1940 graduate of Vevay High School. She resided in Milan since 1945.
Grace retired as a cashier from the Ben Franklin Store in Milan. She was a member of the Milan United Methodist Church, the Milan United Methodist Women’s Society, the Bennington Order of Eastern Star #407 and the Milan Internationally Yours Club. Grace died Friday at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.
She is survived by sister: Clarabell Crandell of Moorefield; three nieces, nine nephews, several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; brothers: Carl, Robert and Fred Brown; stepsister: Clara Burroughs; sisters-in-law: Hazel V. Brown, Nora F. Brown and Marian Brown and brother-in-law: Carl Scott Crandell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m., by Rev. Pam Wooden and Pastor KC Banta, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry St. Vevay, IN 47043. Burial will be at the Vevay Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home. Eastern Star Services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday at funeral home. Verland C. Demaree
Verland C. Demaree, 81, of Benham, passed away at 12:20 a.m., Monday, September 28, 2015 at his home. He was born at Benham on May 1, 1934, the son of Dilver and Jeanette Bliton Demaree. He was married to Anita Jean Minch on November 3, 1956 and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Demaree of Madison, Darren Demaree of Benham and Bill (Barbara) Risk of Lexington; one daughter, Anita (Jack) Chitwood of Hanover; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; four brothers, Dwayne Demaree and Wes Demaree both of Benham, Howard Demaree of Moorefield and Tim Demaree of Versailles; and one sister, Myrna Grimes of Dillsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Demaree was a 1952 graduate of Cross Plains High School where he played on the Wildcat basketball team. He had owned and operated the Texaco Station in Cross Plains and was also an over-the-road driver for Roadway Trucking. He had also owned and operated Demaree Trucking at Benham. Verland attended the Concord Wesleyan Church near Benham.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jerry Vandervort of the Concord Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Benham Cemetery in care fo the funeral home.
Bernard “Bernie” Charles Ward
Bernard “Bernie” Charles Ward, 76, of Osgood, entered this world on October 1, 1938, in Batesville. He was the son of the late Charles Paul and Louise A. Schroder Ward. He married Glenna Marie Grills April 22, 1961 and she still survives at home. Bernie passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015.
Bernie was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Osgood. He had worked 34 years for Monsanto of Addyston, Ohio retiring in 1994. He had belonged to the Osgood Fire Department. He also had done farming in the Ripley County area. One of his very favorite places to go along with his wife Glenna, was the Great Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, TN. He loved fishing and the great outdoors and Glenna jokingly stated he loved his Krispy Kreme Donuts! He was known among his many friends near and far as a very loving, joking and caring man! He will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna Ward of Osgood; brothers, John (Janet) Ward of Dillsboro, Don (Beronica) Ward of Indianapolis; and sister, Catherine Werner of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Scot Ward and two sisters, Charlene Ward and Elizabeth Block.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Osgood at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Fire Department or St. John’s Catholic Church. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is in charge of arrangements.
