Velma Browning
Velma Browning, 90, Versailles, passed away at 12:05 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 201,5 at the Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville. She was born at Oakland City on June 9, 1925, the daughter of John and Georgia McDonald Adams. She was married to Oral Browning on January 31, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1994.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlene (Richard) Weaver of Shelbyville; two brothers, John (Lucy) Adams of Florida and Dale (Martha) Adams of Herndon, Virginia; two sisters, Stella Dobson of Rising Sun and Alta Holcomb of Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Grover Adams and Edward Adams, and her sister Betty Holzer.
Mrs. Browning was a 1943 graduate of New Marion High School. While she and Oral lived in Highland, Indiana she was employed with the Simmons Mattress Company in Munster, was a cook at the Highland School, a Girl Scout leader, and served as Sunday school secretary for 40 years for the Highland Baptist Church. While living in Versailles Velma served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Dabney Baptist Church where she was active in the ABWM.
Velma’s wishes were to be cremated and graveside services will be held at a later date at the Marble Corner Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Dabney Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.

Gale Howard Ferris, Sr., 78, Canaan, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24 at 11 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, with burial in the Canaan Cemetery in Canaan.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Jefferson Presbyterian Church, Indian-Kentuck Baptist Church or the Canaan Cemetery Association, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
