Weather for the 13th Annual Run the Park 5K at the Versailles State Park found Mother Nature cooperating on Saturday morning, Nov. 14. A distinct chill in the air, a little breezy, but very sunny and bright, made for happy competitors. Many gathered at the parking area adjacent to the Oak Grove Shelter House followed by trophy presentations, along with many door prizes given out on behalf of supporting local business.

Pictured from left are Jim Cole, Leo Turchyn and Ronnie McAllister, a trio of familiar competitors reminiscing following their participation in the 13th annual Run/Walk the Versailles State Park 5K. When running as a team, they run as “Old Geezers Gone Wild;” however, the contribution these three men have made to local young runners will never be bested.
Park Race organizer Jim Cole, South Ripley High School Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach, called competitors to the starting line before the 10 a.m. start to explain the course, rules of run and walk distinction, and shared a gracious welcome to all. Timed by Stuart Road Racing, Greg Stuart fired the starting pistol at the starting line…and they were off!
