Area storms cut OVFD hosted truck/tractor pulls short

One of the ever-popular and well-attended grandstand events during the Ripley County 4-H Fair is the very competitive annual truck and tractor pulls that close the week’s action. The 2014 fair would be no different, except that lightning and thunderstorms moved in on the fairgrounds near 10 p.m. forcing the elimination of the final five classes slated to run.
A large slate of competitors had reveled at the chance to compete. Unfortunately, the possibility of injury due to lightning and severe weather forced a decision by OVFD and RCF personnel to shut it down in favor of safety to competitors and attendees.

An unexpected but greatly appreciated return in the announcer’s position for the Osgood Volunteer Fire Department sponsored 2014 Ripley County 4-H Fair Truck and Tractor Pulls was Dan Mulford, having only recently undergoing serious surgical procedures.
The near perfectly timed shutdown decision allowed for an opportunity to get to a safer place and/or load up equipment without getting very wet, ending on a positive note. The OVFD and RCF staff expressed a sincere and apologetic thank-you for the public’s understanding in the unfortunate circumstances; however, many local favorites were able to get their runs in before the storms curtailment.
