Charles O. Wagoner

Charles O. Wagoner, 76, of Lake Placid, Florida, formerly of Holton, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at his home. He was born near Borden on September 15, 1937, the son of Alfred and Verna Boardman Wagoner. He was married to Eva Mae Franklin on December 6, 1959 and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Charles Mark Wagoner and his companion Charlotte Patterson of St. Petersburg, Florida; two daughters, Annette (Mark) Sims of North Vernon and Barbette (Chuck) Wickstrom of Benham; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Jo Ann Mills of Lakeland, Florida; sister-in-law, Susan Wagoner also of Lakeland; special friends, Michael and Terri Beebe of Riverview, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gene Wagoner.

Mr. Wagoner was a 1955 graduate of North Vernon High School. He was a master electrician and retired from the Macdill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida in 2002. He had also been employed with Arvins, Cummins, Kroger, and the former Farm Chemical Service in Holton.

Charlie was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, the Holton Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Murat Shrine Club, Moose Lodge at North Vernon, Dixie County Bass Club, and was an honorary member of the Placid Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Shriner’s Hospital or the Hopewell Building Fund in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

Roy Dobbs

Roy Dobbs, 60, of New Marion, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. He was born at Batesville on March 12, 1954, the son of Leonard and Margaret Miller Dobbs. He was married to Kathy Brinson on November 17, 1973 and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Lafe Dobbs of New Marion; one daughter, Dee Dobbs Livingston of Dillsboro; two grandchildren, Braesyn and Brinley Livingston; one brother, Joe Dobbs of Batesville; one sister, Mary (Donald) Nealis of Canaan; sister-in-law, Rita Dobbs of Pulaski, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Dobbs.

Mr. Dobbs was a 1972 graduate of South Ripley High School. He was a former employee of Ohio Rod in Versailles and for fourteen years drove a school bus for the Holton and South Ripley Schools. Roy was also the owner and operator of Dobbs Farms and was a former member of the New Marion Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Steve Culp of the New Marion Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Cemetery or the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

Carrol E. Adkins

Carrol E. Adkins, 83, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born at Boggstown on November 10, 1930, the son of Delza and Anna Marquardt Adkins. He was married to Freda Turner on September 20, 1948 and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Rick (Darla) Adkins of Seymour and Carl (Sandy) Adkins of Crothersville; two daughters, Dianne (Chris) Pearson of North Manchester and Susan Adkins of Bloomington; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Katherine Parrish, and his brothers Jim, Charles and Alfred Adkins.

Mr. Adkins was a 1948 graduate of Versailles High School and was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in Japan with the US Army as a Private First Class and received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. He was a former employee of Monsanto, the Indiana State Highway Department, the Versailles Dunbrik Company, and Hitz Greenhouse in Versailles.

Mr. Adkins retired in 1992, after 30 years with the Jefferson Proving Ground where he worked as an Explosive Test Operator. Carrol was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church, Versailles Masonic Lodge and the Versailles American Legion.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at the Tanglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Mullins officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles where the Versailles Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Special Olympics of Wabash County, the Tanglewood Baptist Church, or the Therapy Department of Ripley Crossing in care of the funeral home.
