Terry L. Brown

Terry L. Brown, 76, of Versailles, passed away at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his home. He was born at home near Fairview in Switzerland County on September 21, 1940, the son of William Dale and Imogene Clark Brown. He was married to Gail Brown on June 21, 1959 and his wife of 58 years survives.

Other survivors include one son, Kenton Brown and his companion Nancy Copley of North Vernon; son-in-law, Mark Hughes of Cadiz, Kentucky; five grandchildren Faith Anne Hughes of Cadiz, Kentucky, Bridget Rork of Lookout, Danny (Laura) Hamilton of Batesville, Miranda (Wesley) Lawson, and Jacob (Julia) Brown both of Madison; eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cherri Hughes, his parents, and his brother Wayne Brown.

Mr. Brown was a 1959 graduate of Versailles High School. He designed, built, and repaired machines for Cincinnati Inc., a machine tool company that Terry retired from in January 2003 after 36 years. Terry’s expertise in his work allowed him to travel across the US, Canada, and Europe for his company, but his family shared that he knew the machines well enough that he could diagnose a lot of problems over the phone. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing Lake of the Woods in Canada and he and Gail were able to travel across the US in their retirement years. Terry was a member of the Bridge of Hope Worship Center and was a former member of the Ripley County Gideon camp.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mark Walker, Bro. Doug Norman, and Rev. Dan McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Celebrate Recovery, the Food Pantry, or to 180 Youth, all programs of the Bridge of Hope Worship Center in care of the funeral home.


John C. Lemen

John C. Lemen, 69, beloved husband of Joan M. Lemen, of Summerville, SC, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017. John was born July 29, 1947 in Osgood, to the late John Carl Sr. and Cora Louise Cranfill Lemen.

He was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and Georgia Mason University in Virginia. He was a resident of Del Webb in Summerville, and was a retired Banker and Banking Consultant. He was an avid bicyclist and photographer. He also loved singing in numerous choral groups for many years, most recently at Bethany UMC. John has now gone to join the Heavenly Choir.

In addition to his wife Joan Lemen, he leaves behind his daughter, Amanda Lemen of Brooklyn, NY; son, Timothy Lemen of Portland, OR; and his brother, Dan (Ella Mae) Lemen of Muncie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16 at Neal’s Funeral Home with doors opening at 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Greendale Cemetery near Osgood. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be made to Greendale Cemetery in c/o Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood.
