Ripley County 4-H Horse & Pony Show heats up

Contesting in the Ripley County Fairground Horse Barn Show Arena during the Area 1, 2017 Ripley County 4-H hosting of a 3rd Annual Horse & Pony Show on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, brought competition and delight to many on hand to witness 4-H youth from 12 different local counties. With the biggest and best participation to date, 86 4-H’ers representing 12 Indiana Counties including Bartholomew, Brown, Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Rush, Switzerland, and hosting Ripley battled it out in 100 of 107 offered classes which included 117 horse/rider combinations.
Saturday evening highlights: Contesting Events
Following all Western Style Halter and Riding activity of Saturday morning and afternoon, the evening was prime time for Horse & Pony 4-H’ers to compete in Pole Bending, Barrel Racing and Flag Sticking and the Keyhole competition. Speed, control and communication between rider and mount provided entertaining on the edge-of-your seat excitement.
Pole Bending
Pole Bending was the first contesting event slated, just before the darkness set in over the show arena requiring the use of lights to safely continue.
