On May 3 Coach David Bradshaw and his Jac-Cen-Del Eagles Varsity Baseball Team took advantage of a rare opportunity of late to do something outside, other than dodge rain drops and mud puddles, and came calling on the Madison Shawe Hilltoppers. Five short innings later it was back on the bus heading for JCD, as they had bested their opponents by a count of 20-1. Long story short, JCD scored 4 in the first, 7 in the second, 2 in the fourth and 7 in the fifth. Shawe rallied to score one in their at bat in the bottom of the second inning. Eagle hurler Michael Flint was credited with the victory from the mound, after five innings of play, during which he had faced 20 Topper batters, thrown 75 pitches and posted 3 hits, was charged with a run, walked two and fanned eight.

Eagles host Shiners
On Monday, May 1, the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles Varsity Baseball Team hosted the visiting Rising Sun Shiners. All seven innings posted resulted in the Shiners grasping the eventual victory, 4-2. The Shiners recorded a run in their first at bat in the top of the first inning with JCD unable to score in the bottom. Neither team scored in the second; however, the action became more lively in the third with RS adding three runs and the hosting Eagles getting on the board with a pair, resulting in the 4-2 RS over JCD edge. Neither team could rally to add runs over the remainder of the seven inning contest, resulting in the RS 4-2 win.
Shiners senior Derrick Eldridge posted a pair of doubles, with sophomore teammate Bryant Housemeyer posting one for the only extra base hits recorded by the Shiners through seven innings of action against the Eagles pitching defense but also were credited for seven hits in total. From the mound, the Eagles battery faced Brent Turner for six and a third innings and Stephen Jiminez for the other two-thirds inning. Over the first six and a third innings, Shiners pitching report finds Turner pitching 120 pitches while facing 31 Eagle batters, allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, 4 walks, hitting 2 batters and charged with a wild pitch. Over his 7 pitches and credited two-thirds innings of relief, while facing but two Eagle batters, Stephen Jiminez collected a HBP and a K to end the game.
The JCD Eagle batters likewise had seven hits recorded for the game, with their only extra base hit credited to third baseman Dustin Herbert with a double. Junior first baseman Michael Flint again stepped up to earn an RBI off his hit and Dylan Swinney accounted for the other RBI and second score for the Eagles.
Recording a hit apiece for the Eagles were freshman Conner Toops, Ben Harlemert, Dustin Herbert, Michael Flint and Logan Drockelman with Matthew Drockelman adding two hits on the JCD game tally sheet. Harlemert, Herbert and senior Cody Campbell were each put on base after being hit by a pitch as well. Drawing walks during the contest were Eagle freshman Dylan Swinney with two, and Logan and Matthew Drockelman one apiece. Five Eagle batters were seated, after going down as strike outs. Two for Logan Drockelman, and one each by Flint, Swinney and Rodney Dobbs. Four defensive errors were charged the Eagles: Herbert with two and one each by Logan Drockelman and freshman Colton Comer. Herbert was credited with two defensive assists, Flint one, Logan and Matthew Drockelman one apiece. Eagle Logan Drockelman assumed pitching duties for the Eagles and was assessed the loss. Eagle Logan Drockelman’s pitching performance over the seven innings played, resulted in 120 pitches thrown, allowing seven hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and 2 doubles, while sending eight Shiners back to the dugout on strike outs.
