Jac-Cen-Del senior takes musical talent to college

Osgood resident and Jac-Cen-Del Eagle, Christopher Douglas has made good use of his time in the JCD Band under Director Glenn Unklesbay. He is preparing to make college more attainable by earning scholarship funding through his learned musical talents.

Having a grandfather, Jack Bustle, who plays multiple instruments and travels with many local bands, probably didn’t hurt the desire to pursue music as a stepping stone for Douglas. He is the son of Jeff and Michelle Bustle Douglas, Osgood, and grandson of Jack and Linda Gaye Vanosdol Bustle of Holton. He has a brother, Jackson, and sister, Olivia.
Douglas, who is a senior at JCD, plans to attend Taylor University where he will be majoring in music education and his minor will be biblical studies with the intent of becoming a band director. He has also been invited to be a walk-on for the college track team. Douglas runs track and field and is in the Pep Band at JCD where his musical talents are showcased at the games as well as in musical performances.
“Christopher plays bass guitar. He started in band on the Sousaphone and plays that when we march. He is one of the finest students JCD has to offer. His cheerful and constantly pleasant personality is an inspiration to us all,” noted Unklesbay, band director.

5K to honor memory of hometown hero
The inaugural Sgt. Chad Keith 5K “Run for our Troops” in October will honor the memory of a Batesville High School graduate who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Sgt. Keith was killed in action on July 7, 2003, in Baghdad, Iraq. The 2000 BHS alum served in the 2 – 235th Infantry, Company D. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

The 5K will be at Liberty Park in Batesville at 9 a.m. on October 7. All ages are invited to attend. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Sgt. Chad Keith Foundation, which supports scholarships for students, sends care packages to deployed troops and helps veterans and military families that are in need. “The amount of support already from the community is amazing. I know with the continued support our event will most definitely be a huge success,” said Nikki Glutz, the sister of Sgt. Keith.
