Otis D. Walston

Otis D. Walston, 75, of Rexville passed away at 3 a.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his home. He was born near Patriot in Switzerland County on July 8, 1941 the son of James V. and Gladys Beach Walston.

Survivors include five brothers: William Walston of Rexville, John (Linda) Walston of New Marion, Ernest (Debbie) Walston and Kenneth (Elaine) Walston, both of Versailles, and Russell Walston of Rexville; 10 sisters Rose Moody and Essie Walston both of Madison, Mary Leach of Holton, Dorothy (Louis) Kieffer of Osgood, Alta (Nelson) Harmeyer of Greensburg, Edith (Ray) Gunter of Holton, Ethel (Kenneth, Jr.) Bush of Rexville, Margaret Glenn of North Vernon, Lelah (Ernest) Bush of Versailles, and Betty (Michael) Meyer of Benham; 35 nieces and nephews, 58 great-nieces and nephews, and three great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James V. Walston, Jr.

Mr. Walston was a farmer in the Rexville area for several years and retired after 33 years as a bus driver for the South Ripley School Corporation. It is estimated that he would have bussed over 1,500 children to school during his tenure with the South Ripley Schools. Otis enjoyed wood working, fishing, bowling, and going to auctions.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Tommy Beatley officiating. Burial will be in the West Fork Cemetery near Rexville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.


Allen Wayne Aldred, M.D.

Allen Wayne Aldred, M.D., 87, of Ft. Wayne, formerly of Switzerland County, died Sunday, March 26, 2017. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home, Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Ft. Wayne, IN 46804. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 31 in the Vevay Cemetery. Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, IN is in charge of the arrangements. Herman “Bob” Vinup

Herman “Bob” Vinup, age 83, of Batesville, died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his home in Batesville. Visitation is Wednesday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. all at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Memorials may be given to MMH Hospice.


Nancy (Shelton) Smith


Nancy (Shelton) Smith, 84, of Dillsboro, passed away March 25, 2017 at Waters of Dillsboro. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Filter-DeVries Funeral is entrusted with arrangements, Box 146, Dillsboro, IN 47018, (812) 432-5480.


Michael R. Dietrich


Michael R. Dietrich of Versailles passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 in Sunman. Funeral services were held Friday, March 24 at 12 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home in Sunman.
