JCD Lady Eagles win Class 1A Sectional #60 over Oldenburg, 68-30

The Lady Eagles, barring injury, or outside interference beyond their control, have shown that they are capable of a second run for the State Championship beginning with becoming the 2017 Sectional #60 Champions. The Lady Eagles captured the championship with a 68-30 victory over the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters Saturday and have held a #1 State ranking over the season. Beyond a couple of troubling losses to neighboring rival South Ripley Lady Raiders this season, the Lady Eagles have stepped it up and have gotten the job done.

The seven team IHSAA Class 1A Girls Sectional #60 hosted by Jac-Cen-Del High School opened on Tuesday evening, January 31, with the Hauser Lady Jets rising to victory over the South Decatur Lady Cougars by 18, at 46-28. Wednesday evening, February 1, action found the Southwestern Shelby Lady Spartans competing with the Rising Sun Lady Shiners in the 6 p.m. opening session, followed by the hosting JCD Lady Eagles against the Waldron Lady Mohawks. Winning the Wednesday night opener was the Southwestern Shelby Lady Spartans, by 10, 54-44 over the Rising Sun Lady Shiners, despite a 35 point outing by Lady Shiner junior Lucy Carrigan. The 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening contest found the hosting JCD Lady Eagles battling the Waldron Lady Mohawks to a 24 point advantage at the sounding of the final horn, 68-44.

The Friday, February 3, format left the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters opening the evening’s action against the Hauser Lady Jets. The Lady Jets were unable to find the needed solution to calm the storm of a Lady Twister attack, allowing Oldenburg Academy to advance to the championship game with a 25 point, 57-32 advantage over Hauser. Friday night second game action pitted the hosting JCD Lady Eagles in action against the Southwestern Shelbyville Lady Spartans, where JCD’s dominance sent the Lady Spartans packing after a 25 point, 55-30 victory, leaving JCD to defend last year’s Sectional Title in the Championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, against Oldenburg Academy.

The championship game on Saturday at JCDHS resulted in a dominating 38 point wing whipping performance by last year's remnants of the 2016 IHSAA Class 1A Girls State Champion Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagle team to the final count of 68-30.

The Sectional #60 winning Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles earned advancement to Regional action hosted at Southwestern Shelbyville High School on Saturday, February 11, where they will play in the 10 a.m. game against the 11-13 Bloomfield Lady Cardinals.
