Milan Lady Indians 14 point victors over the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles

With ink still drying on reported records of the 2017 IHSAA Fall Sports athletes action, Girls Basketball competition has already taken center focus in the local high school sports arenas.

With two opening season on the road contests behind them, standing 1/1 , the Milan Lady Indians hosted the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles in front of their hometown faithful on Tues. Nov. 14. The JV game got underway with a center court tip at 6PM, behind new JV Coach Abby Leonetti. Lady Eagle Emma Tunny lit the scoreboard up like a pin ball machine, helping to give JCD a huge lead during early first period action to go into the second period up 19-2.
The Lady Eagle JV maintained in period two to go into the halftime break with a 21-5 edge. The Lady Indians eliminated part of their deficit in the third period, adding one more than they surrendered to enter the fourth period 13-28 JCD. Again in the final period the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Eagle subs to close just 10 points short by the final horn's sounding, 28-38 Lady Eagles.
Quarter One
The varsity game resulted in a seven point first quarter outing for senior Milan Lady Indian Alexa Burton accounting for half her game total of 14 points. Two points each were added by junior teammate Courtney Bruns and senior Maddy Roell. The Lady Eagles first period scoring of 24 earned them a 13 point advantage that soon found itself to be quite critical to their success. First quarter Lady Eagle scoring was accounted for by a 12 point input by senior Lily Simon, seven by junior Mariah Day, three by senior Morgen Carroll and a basket by freshman center Paige Ledford.
Quarter Two
In second period action, the Lady Eagles found themselves outscored by eight points, six to 14, to retain but a six point advantage heading to the halftime break, 25-30. JCD's Day two, Carroll one for six from the charity stripe, a basket by senior Baylee Dwenger and a one/two opportunity from the charity stripe input by freshman Kadee Kuhn. Milan did nothing special scoring, but greatly hindered the Lady Eagles defensively. Milan scoring came by the result of four by Burton, four by Bruns, two by senior Lexi Wert, two by senior Taylor Amberger and a pair of FT's by former Lady Eagle Dakota Wolfe.
Quarter Three
Third period action resulted in a deadlock of five points added to each team's scoring with all five Lady Eagle points coming from Carroll off two FG's and 1/2 FT shooting. The Milan five points off Burton's 1/2 FT shooting, 2/2 FT shooting by Bruns and a basket by Lady Indian sophomore Cionna Bailey.
Quarter Four
During fourth period action, the Lady Indians netted 10 more points for a game total of 40. They from a basket by Burton, a 3 pointer and a pair of FT's by Wolfe and a basket and 1/2 FT shooting by Roell. However, the Lady Eagles kicked it into overdrive in the final stanza to add 23 to a game total of 58. Lady Eagle fourth period scoring was the result of 11 points by Day, four by Simon, four by Carroll and two apiece for Ledford and Kuhn.
