Melvin Charles Cathey, II

Melvin Charles Cathey, II, 71, of Westport, passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born on November 11, 1944 in Bay County, Florida, the son of James W. and Mary M. (Case) Cathey.

Melvin was raised and lived his life in Westport and graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1962. Mr. Cathey had worked as a machine operator for CCG for 4 years and owned a horse farm. Mr. Cathey was a bull rider in his younger days and showed Appaloosa and Quarter horses.

He is survived by his companion, Hazel Dwenger of Westport; daughters, Cheryl Lindewald of Greensburg and Tracy (Darren) Wilson of Osgood; stepdaughter, Chris Adams of Osgood; sisters, Nancy (Tom) Menkedick of Westport, Joyce (Coolie) Callahan of Jacksonville, Missouri, Sarah (Eddie) Wright and Loretta (Jim) Works both of Arizona City, Arizona; brothers, Howard (Betty) Cathey, Richard (Denise) Cathey, David (Donna) Cathey and Robert (Connie) Cathey all of Westport and his six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marietta Crawford.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with cremation to follow. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Terrence L. “Terry” Tucker

Terrence L. “Terry” Tucker, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Indianapolis. Terry was born November 21, 1954 at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville to Ray and Sari Virginia (Doyle) Tucker.

Terry was a loving husband to Karen (Appel) Tucker and father to three daughters Sarah (David) Blount of Indianapolis, Chelsea Tucker and fiancé Justin Moore of Cincinnati, and Margo Tucker, a third-year law student at Indiana University; Other survivors include his father and stepmother Ray and Marian Tucker of Dabney; father-in-law and mother-in-law Peter and Margaret Appel of Valparaiso; two brothers Trace (Denise) Tucker of Versailles and Trevor (Todd Freier) of Chicago; three sisters Renea (Bill) Kline of Dayton, Ohio, Becky (Frank) Eaton, and Lynn (Mike) Cumberworth both of Versailles. He was also a doting grandfather to his two grand-daughters Peyton, and Isabel Blount. He was preceded in death by his mother Sari Virginia, his nephew Tanner Tucker, and his childhood best friend Leslie Stratton, Jr.

Terry was a proud graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School in the class of 1973 and was a 1977 graduate of Hanover College where he played basketball for the Panthers and received his degree in biology. He spent over 25 years working in sales for Signature Graphics alongside his best friend Ed Mosser. Terry truly enjoyed grilling, boating, watching the Reds, and spending time with his family. He was member of the Dabney Baptist Church and was a 2003 inductee of the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame. Terry set the scoring record for a single game in the Ripley County tourney when he scored 42 points in the championship game in 1973.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Dabney Baptist Church, 1103 N. Old Michigan Rd., Holton, IN 47023. A meal will be provided by the church immediately following the service, and a small graveside gathering will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Union Flat Rock Cemetery near Osgood. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the IU Hospital Transplant Program or the Tanner Tucker Scholarship Fund in care of the Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
