Bessie Ella-Vene Schutte


The community of Delaware (Osgood area), lost a very special lady. Bessie Ella-Vene Schutte, age 90, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She is the daughter of the late James Louis and Ella Mae Wilson Lanham, born December 23, 1925, in Jefferson County, Indiana.

In 1940, she graduated from Central High School of Madison, Indiana. She married Gilbert Paul Schutte on July 3, 1945, and three sons were born to this union. She was a very loving wife and mother, who ran a tight ship! Her sons knew that they did not need to wait for their dad to get home if any disciplining was needed! From the late 1970s to the middle 1980s, she worked for Meyers Hardware in Milan. Bessie was a very proud member of the Republican Party, who had been seen over the many years working on the election board for Delaware Township. She brought her family up in the Delaware Methodist Church where she was a member, along with belonging to the ladies WSCS group. Community time as a member was also given to the Delaware Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her greatest passion of all, aside from her family, was basketball. She undoubtedly was on of Jac-Cen-Del’s greatest fans, who had been seen for many years sitting in the bleachers rooting the players on and shaking her fist at the referees. She was feisty, loved life and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Bessie is survived by sons Ronald Lee (Sue) Schutte and Paul “Gene” (Nancy) Schutte, both of Greensburg; sister, Beatrice Marie Black of Hanover; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Gilbert Paul Schutte; son, James Robert Schutte; brother, James Olen Lanham; and sisters, Elsie E. Sampson, Dorothy O. Hines, and Edith P. Lemens.

Visitation will be Friday, June 10 from 5 – 8 p.m., at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. The funeral will take place Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m., at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood with doors opening at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Mud Pike Cemetery, Osgood. Memorials may be given to Delaware Methodist Church towards a chair lift.


Leola Elizabeth Ebinger

Leola Elizabeth Ebinger, age 95, of Holton, surrounded by her family, entered the gates of heaven early Friday evening, June 3, 2016, at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood.

Born on August 15, 1920, she was the loving daughter of the late Leo John and Eva Marie Koechlin Miller. Leola married Charles Edward Ebinger on April 17, 1948, and to this union three sons and three daughters were born. At an early age, Charles preceded her in death on November 4, 1968, leaving Leola with five children still at home to raise. With great spiritual strength and strong work ethics, she successfully raised her family! Working for the US Shoe Factory in Osgood for approximately 15 years and raising gardens were ways in which she provided for her family. Attending St. John’s Catholic Church of Osgood was a very important part of her family’s life. She was a very devoted member and had also served on the Parish Council. Quilting had always been a great passion. She gave quilts to each of her children, grandchildren and also many friends. Each great-grandchild received a baby quilt. In her later years, she enjoyed being a member of the local Red Hatters.

She is survived by her sons Ronald (Billie Sue) Ebinger of Holton, Richard (Wanda) Ebinger of Greensburg, and David (Lisa) Ebinger of Holton, and her daughters Charla (Steve) McEvoy of Holton, Cheryl (Rick) Caswell of Greensburg, and Debby Ebinger of Holton. Other survivors include her brothers Roy Miller of Holton and Ralph (Joyce) Miller of Osgood, her sister-in-law Laura Miller of Greensburg, 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Leslie and Paul Miller, sisters Mary Thola and Florence Miller, and also grandson Jeremy Ebinger.

Visitation will be Monday, June 6, 2016, at Neal’s Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may be given to the St. John’s Cemetery Fund. Arrangements were made by Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.


Richard A. “Dick” Myers

Richard A. “Dick” Myers, 67, of Milan, passed away Thursday June 2, 2016, at his residence. Richard was born Sunday December 26, 1948, in Greensburg the son of Estell and Evelyn (Hampton) Myers.

Richard was a Navy veteran. He worked over 40 years at Campbell Hausfeld in Harrison, Ohio. He enjoyed mowing grass, blowing snow, and visiting Jack’s dog (Jake) at Napa to feed him hot dogs.

Richard is survived by brothers: Billy (Margie) Eldridge of Napoleon, Robert Myers of Dillsboro, Ron (Connie) Myers of Milan, Garfield (Theresa) Eldridge of Milan, and Karen Sue (Martin) Lusty of Humble, Texas. He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Ann Snyder.

Graveside services will be Tuesday June 7, 1 p.m. at Sand Creek Cemetery in Greensburg off of Hwy 421, with Pastor Harris Long officiating. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice. Glenda L. Marksberry, 71 of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday June 4, 2016, at U.C. Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Funeral services will be Thursday June 9, 10 a.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill, with Pastor Charlie Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill.
