Ernest William “Ernie” Lipperd, Sr.
Ernest William “Ernie” Lipperd, Sr., age 86, of Versailles, entered this life on February 16, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late, Ernest Henry and Hazel Snow (Beach) Lipperd.
Ernie was raised in Versailles and later moved to Cambridge, Ohio, where he was a 1947 graduate of Cambridge High School. As a child, he worked at the Elrod Creamery in Elrod. Ernie was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1947, serving in Trinidad. He was honorably discharged in 1950. Ernie was united in marriage on December 27, 1954 in Indianapolis, to Dolly Melvina Brinson and to this union arrived three daughters and three sons to bless their home.
Ernie and Dolly shared nearly 62 loving years of marriage together until his death. Ernie was employed for Borden’s Dairy in Shelbyville. He was a former engineer for the Kroger Company, retiring in February 1989 after 32 years of service. Ernie and Dolly farmed on the family farm in Bennington, Indiana, from 1971 to 2013 when they moved to the Versailles community. Ernie attended the Crossroads Community Wesleyan Church in Holton. Ernie enjoyed farming all of his life, antiques, gardening and especially raising his blackberry’s. Ernie will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Ernie passed away with his loving family by his side at 3:15 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, at his residence in Versailles.
Survivors include his wife; daughters: Marcia Ann Chism of Newark, OH, Renee Lee Wise and her husband: Fred of Lebanon, OH and Mavis Marilyn Cope and her husband: Rick of Whiteland; his sons: Ernest Henry Lipperd and his wife: Amy of Versailles and Robert David Lipperd and his wife: Rhonda of Madison; his 19 grandchildren and his 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Terry Randall Lipperd, died in 1996 and half sister: Evelyn Lostutter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 11 a.m., by Pastor John Blair, Sr., at the Crossroads Community Wesleyan Church, 5112 West US 50 Holton, Indiana 47023. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery, Elrod. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Community Wesleyan Church. Cards are available at the funeral home. Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay, is entrusted with arrangements.
Frank A. Smith
Frank A. Smith, 65, of Milan, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was born at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville on April 27, 1951, the son of Carl and Myrtle Firth Smith.
Survivors include one sister, Jan (Ernie) Davis of Milan; brother-in-law, Frank Braley of Versailles; sister-in-law, Janice Smith of Versailles, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Braley, and his brother Larry Smith.
Frank, or Frankie as he was known by his friends and family loved music and dancing. He could identify the artist singing a song as soon as he heard the first few notes. When he was a child, Sister Ann Janelle established a school for Downs Syndrome children in Batesville and Frank learned to read and write. Frank’s favorite past time was not only following the Cincinnati Reds and IU basketball, but as long as he was able he loved to play both sports as well. Frankie also had a love for the camera and when was out his family said he was front and center to have his picture taken.
Funeral services for Frank will be on Wednesday, June 29 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Harris Long of the First Baptist Church in Milan officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery or the Versailles American Legion in care of the funeral home.
Carl W. “Chipper” Cline
Carl W. “Chipper” Cline, 68, of Milan, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky. Chipper was born Friday, July 11, 1947 in Milan, the son of Joseph Carl and Ada (Earls) Cline. He was united in marriage to Judith Garteman April 16, 1966 at St. Pius Catholic Church.
Chipper worked at Cummings Engine at Columbus for 49 years, and also operated a painting business for many years. He had served in the Army Reserves, and was a former member of the Milan Fire Dept, and was a member of the Diesel Workers Union. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, part time gardener, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Chipper is survived by wife Judy; daughters, Melissa (Mike) Hertzenberg and Monica (Eric) Widener; grandchildren, Megan and Leah Hertzenberg and Morgan and Erin Widener; sisters, Dianna Cline, Brenda (James) Bowen, Barbara Shelton; brothers, Denny Callen, and Steve (Kaye) Callen. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Roger Cline.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Chipper was laid to rest at St. Pius Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Milan American Legion Post #235. Bret Lee Brown
Late Friday evening, June 24, 2016, the young precious life of Bret Lee Brown, age 36, of Osgood, was tragically taken in an automobile accident. He was born January 11, 1980 at Batesville, to the parents of Sammy H. and Deborah Forwalt Brown who survive in Osgood.
A graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School, he had presently worked 15 years at Hill-Rom of Batesville as a machinist. He was a great outdoor enthusiast enjoying camping, fishing and deer hunting! Motorcycling along with white water rafting at Connersville were also favorite pastimes. He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion of Osgood and also rode with the Versailles Legion Rider’s. Bret was baptized at Cedar Creek Community Church of Osgood and presently attended Bridge of Hope near Milan. Spending time with his family, especially his son Skyler, was his greatest joy!
Survivors include his parents: Sammy H. and Deborah Ann Forwalt Brown of Osgood; son: Skyler L. Brown of Osgood; brothers: Chad (significant other Tisha Moore) Osgood, Mark (Vanesa) Brown Osgood and Brad (significant other April Croddy) Columbus; sister: April McQueen of Osgood; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
