“Abby’s talents extend beyond basketball as she ranks first among classmates and boasts a GPA of 4.269 on a 4.0 scale. Once a week Abby volunteers at the Margaret Mary Rehabilitation Center. As an active member of her church she is an organist, and at school, she serves as the JCDHS Student Council President and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Upon graduation, Abby plans to major in exercise science at the University of Indianapolis. The Indiana Fever and Indiana Pacers, the sponsors of the IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament, presented a $1,000 scholarship to Jac-Cen-Del High School after the Class 1A state game. Her parents were introduced and brought onto the platform as well.
In 2009, Eagle senior Gerald Hardesty, son of David and Jennifer, was the recipient of the Mental Attitude Award with a $1,000 check issued to JCDHS on his behalf. The award is named in honor of former IHSAA assistant commissioner Patricia L. Roy, who oversaw the girls basketball state tournament from its inception in 1976 until her retirement in 1999.
