On Saturday, Feb. 13, the soaring 2015-16 Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles continued their awesome flight winning the morning IHSAA Girls Basketball Class 1A Regional 15 opener at Southwestern Shelby High School over the Bloomfield Lady Cardinals, 43-37, then securing the championship title victory over the Indianapolis Tindley Lady Tigers, 66-47, in the nightcap.

The adventure continues to the round of four for the JCD Lady Eagles. Pictured above from left are seniors Jordan Day (30), Hayley Bruns (42) and Abby Wagner (24); sophomore Lilly Simon (22), freshman Mariah Day (14) and junior Olivia Voss (20).
In true JCD family supporting nature, firemen and police met them at the county line along with a hundred or so personal vehicles forming a caravan to bring them gloriously back home by way of Napoleon and then Osgood, where the team again made their trip past supporter Chuck Schornick’s house to allow him to personally share in their victories despite health issues. The caravan was followed by a gathering in the Jac-Cen-Del High School gym where Coach Smith, team and assistant coaches were joyfully greeted by excited supporters before departing to rest and hopefully get well before next Saturday’s encounter against Vincennes Rivet. Nearly half the team had taken ill prior to Saturday’s action, but they collectively got the job done in fine fashion. With the health issues, the game was by no means a walk in the park for the Lady Eagles, but nevertheless, a test of heart and soul that proved they are champions both on and off the court.
In the championship game Regional co-MVPs, JCD’s Rosie Newhart opened first and second period scoring for the Lady Eagles against Bloomfield, and Kayla Bowling closed both sessions with scores. Bowling opened and closed JCD scoring in the third period with Newhart opening scoring again in the fourth, while Bowling concluded the JCD’s game scoring at the charity stripe with a pair of connections. It has taken an entire team effort by the Lady Eagles to come this far. The 25-1 Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles head to the IHSAA Class 1A Semi-State action as the visitors team at Jeffersonville High School on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a 4 p.m. center court-tip against the 17-2 Vincennes Rivet Lady Patriots.
