SR Raiders 8th grade refuse to let SwH heartbreaker loss deplete their focus

South Ripley eighth grade boys basketball Coach Jeff Greiwe relayed a heartbreaker conclusion with the one-point loss to the Southwestern Hanover Rebels, 52-53, played at Hanover on Dec. 5. Coach Greiwe stated, “Southwestern’s Foster Mefford hit a contested layup at the buzzer to give the host Rebels a 53-52 win.”

The loss breaks their nine game winning streak. Bryce Franklin hit a spinning layup to break a 48-48 tie with under a minute to play and Cody Samples added two free throws, but it wasn’t enough as the Rebels were able to escape with the victory. Lane Sparks paced the Raiders with 23 points, Franklin finished with 11, Samples scored all 9 of his points from the foul line, Jacob Jines hit a three-pointer, and Colby Bush, Dillon Binion, and Brady Linkel all added two-point buckets. The streak breaker leaves the eighth grade team at 9-2 for the season.

The visiting Raiders 7th graders battled after being shutdown in the first quarter, but couldn’t generate enough offense or rebounds in a 45-24 loss to the Rebels. Zach Gentile lead SR with 14 points with Ryan Miller adding 6, Dalton Smith 2, and 1 point each from Luke Cranfill and Nick Schwarte.
Tuesday, Dec. 6: Raiders host Hauser Jets
The South Ripley Raider eighth graders behind Coach Jeff Greiwe rebounded after a single point loss at Hanover on Tuesday evening at SRES to again claim victory at the expense of their opponents, the Hauser Jets. The final count, SR 61 Hauser 43. According to Coach Greiwe, “The Raiders dominated the first quarter 26-4 en route to a 61-43 victory over the Hauser Jets. Lane Sparks scored 17 of his 27 points in the first half to go along with several steals in an outstanding team performance.” Cody Samples scored 12 points and a boatload of steals, while Bryce Franklin added 12 points and a team high 6 rebounds. Kaden Rinear contributed 4 points and 5 rebounds; Brady Linkel had 2 points and 4 boards; Jacob Jines hit a 2 point bucket; and Colby Bush hit a free throw and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Raiders 7th grade claim victory

Nick Schwarte came alive for 16 big points to lead the host Raiders to a 41-31 victory over the Hauser Jets. The Raiders jumped out to an 24-11 first half lead, survived a third quarter rally from the Jets, and held on to snap a five-game losing streak. Along with Schwarte’s 16 points, Zach Gentile chipped in 10 along with several outstanding passes and ball hawking defense. Ryan Miller posted 6 points and a good game on the boards; Dalton Smith and Bryce Wrightsman scored 4 each and Ben Miller hit a free throw. The Raiders next find a 5:30 start for 7th grade game at Milan on Thursday, December 8 against the Indians, with the 8th grade game to follow.
