A nearly two-hour trek to the hosting site took its toll on the team, but compete they did. The opening set was a give and take affair for the first four points, with ties at one, two, three and four before the Lady Rams began to pull away to capture the first set victory 25-13 SR. Set two of the match found the Lady Raiders in a undesirable rut, down 0-5 far too quickly, but no white flags from the SR bench found them propelling themselves back to a 5-5 tie before relenting the serve. Ties followed at 6, 8, 9 and 10 before SR pulled to a closing set victory knotting the match at a set apiece with their 25-18 win. Set three of the match resulted in Lady Raider leads before tie scores at one, two, three, five, six, eight and 10 before the Lady Rams initiated a lead at 11-10 before SR gained their first lead. Continuing the back-and-forth game momentum would tie at 14, 15 and 16 before Paoli edged away to a 25-18 second set victory. Set four ended with a Paoli 25-15 win and Regional Match victory following ties of one and two, ending the solid Lady Raiders extended season venture. Coach Greiwe stated, “Winning sectional was such an exciting time; however, with regional on a Tuesday night, there wasn’t much time to prepare the players mentally for the big game.”
Coach continued, “You win sectional on Saturday, and have one day on Monday to practice and prepare mentally for a game two hours away the next day. “Also Monday was a huge celebratory day at school, since it is the first day back since winning sectional, and the girls deserve to enjoy that moment.”
Coach Greiwe went on to say, “Home court advantage is a huge advantage when both teams are trying to win the school’s first ever regional championship. Our South Ripley Lady Raiders played very hard against a very good team in the Paoli Lady Rams. Given the circumstances we gave it our best shot and just came up short. Hopefully we can build on this and take our experience into regional again next year, as we lose two seniors in Laken Farrell and Hannah Schwarte, and return five starters.”
