The long-standing sports rivalry between South Ripley Raiders and Jac-Cen-Del Eagles re-surfaced on the Jac-Cen-Del High School soccer field during the annual battle for the Coach Matt Obendorf Traveling Memorial Trophy, a trophy given in the memory of the former South Ripley Raider coach who lost his battle with cancer. This session of the ongoing battles between the schools took place on Friday evening, September 30.

South Ripley Raider senior Cory Walker’s rushing drive is met by defending Jac-Cen-Del Eagle Kobe Darnold, providing the Eagles another opportunity to keep the Raiders from scoring the winning point as time escapes.
Over the first 40-minute half, the visiting Raiders established a 2-0 lead; however, early in second half action, the Eagles shot a ball deep into the net past the Raiders goalie only to have it recanted for an off sides call. As action resumed over the remainder of the final 40 minutes of the half, JCD erupted for a goal that credited for a score leaving them trailing 2-1 and time quickly winding down. Progressing through the remainder of the contest, the hosting Eagles mounted a drive rendering another score that knotted the game at 2-2. A definite increase in intensity between the two teams evolved to find neither able to secure a third score for the victory.
To the great satisfaction of Coach Obendorf's mother, Cheryl who was in attendance for the game, the 2-2 tie left South Ripley an opportunity to retain the traveling trophy as the holder entering the contest.
