Charles W. Denny


Charles W. Denny, 85, Cross Plains, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. He was born near Canaan in Jefferson County on April 24, 1930 the son of Gayle and Lillian Vestal Denny. He was married to Phyllis Schwartz on June 11, 1952 and she preceded him in death on December 26, 1999. He was married to Joyce Kinkey on June 25, 2005 and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Greg (Jackie) Denny of Versailles; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Laswell of Indianapolis and Donna (Ralph) Stenger of Versailles; three stepsons, Mike (Roseanna) Kissell of Milan, Timothy (Betty) Kissell of Olean, and Pat Kissell of Versailles; one stepdaughter, Kathleen (Phillip) Parker of Marietta, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Jester of Vevay. He was also preceded in death by his son Gayle Douglas Denny, his parents, and his sister Delta Cahall.

Mr. Denny was a 30-year employee of Wood Farm Supply in Versailles where he worked as parts and service manager retiring in 2007. He had also been employed with the Versailles Implement Company in Olean and was a former owner of a Massey Ferguson dealership in Carrollton, Kentucky. Charlie was an Army veteran of the Korean War and Massey Ferguson tractors were his pastime. He was also a farmer and had attended the Cross Plains Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 2 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Doug Norman officiating. Burial was in the Hebron Cemetery near Madison. Memorials may be given to the Hebron Cemetery in care of the funeral home.


Marilyn Plowman

Marilyn Plowman, 74, Napoleon, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at her home. She was born in Greensburg on June 5, 1941, the daughter of Forest and Goldie Gaunt Roszell. She was married to Raymond Plowman and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2010.

Survivors include one son, Lincoln (Christine) Plowman of Indianapolis; three daughters, Ruth Kieffer of Osgood, Lynda (Craig) Wright of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Bobbie (Chris) Howlett of Milan; five grandchildren; one sister, Naomi Tellas of Greensburg.

Mrs. Plowman was a homemaker and had also worked as a cook and in laundry at the Heritage House in Greensburg. Marilyn’s wishes were to be cremated and services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles in charge of arrangements.


Robert L. “Bob” Branigan

Robert L. “Bob” Branigan, 68, Milan, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville. Bob was born Tuesday, February 4, 1947 at New Castle the son of Fred and Francis (Wright) Branigan. He married Connie (Kaiser) Branigan August 5, 1988 and she survives.

Bob was an Air Force Veteran and retired as a teacher for East Central High School after 37 years. He was a member of the Ripley County Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Versailles F & AM Lodge #7, Milan Police Department, Milan Town Board, Milan VFW Post 6234, Ripley County Amateur Radio Club. Versailles Chapter 333 Order of the Eastern Star and held other titles too numerous to mention. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family.

Bob is survived by wife: Connie Branigan of Milan; son: Sean (Jaralee) Branigan of Cloverdale; mother: Francis Branigan of Anderson; brother: Dan (Laura) Branigan; in-laws: Bill and Freda Kaiser of Milan; two grandchildren: Aubree and Corey Branigan. He was preceded in death by his father Fred Branigan.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Hope Baptist Church, Dillsboro, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 5 at Hope Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Indiana Juvenile Diabetes Association, Milan Life Squad, and Milan Police Department. Anthony W. Slayback

Anthony W. Slayback, 55, Milan, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 9, from 11 a.m. till time of services at 1 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, Sunman. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman. Florine Mae Rardin, 83, Greensburg, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Rossburg Cemetery. Her wishes were to be cremated. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, is serving the family.
