Ervin Dietrich Iceberg
Mr. Ervin Dietrich Iceberg, 80, Bear Branch, entered this life on February 2, 1935 in Dewberry, the son of the late, Dietrich Henry and Clara Mae (Voris) Iceberg. He was raised in Dewberry and was a 1953 graduate of Cross Plains High School. He was an employee for Albers Supermarket in Cincinnati, Ohio for 13 years.
Ervin was united in marriage on June 14, 1958 at the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry to Janet Lee Nolker and to this union arrived a daughter, Cynthia and a son, Jeff to bless their home. Ervin and Janet shared nearly 58 loving years of marriage together until his death. Ervin owned and operated the Iceberg Farm in Bear Branch where he raised angus cattle, hogs, tobacco, corn, soybeans and hay. He was a school bus driver for the Rising Sun and Ohio County School System retiring in 2002 after 35 years of dedication where he made an impact on many students. He served as Director for SEI Communications in Dillsboro, Indiana retiring in 2012 after 21 years of service. He served as Director for the Federal Land Bank Association in Versailles, Indiana for 13 years. Ervin was a Director at the SEI Feeder Auction in Osgood, Indiana for several years. He was a member of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry, Indiana where he served as President, Treasurer and Deacon. He was a charter member of the Bear Branch Volunteer Fire Department in Bear Branch, Indiana. He enjoyed bowling all of his life and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Ervin was a fixture in the Bear Branch community where he will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends, community and neighbors.
Ervin passed away with his loving family by his side at 12:48 pm, Sunday, January 17, 2016, at his residence in Bear Branch. Ervin will be dearly missed by his loving wife of nearly 58 years: Janet Lee (Nolker) Iceberg of Bear Branch; his daughter: Cynthia “Cindy” Welch of Pleasant; his son: Jeff Iceberg (Nanette) of Bear Branch; his grandchildren: Kurtis S. Gregory (Erin), Daniel S. Welch, April G. Shepherd (Adam), Christiana R. Hawkins (Andre), Nicholas A. Iceberg and Andrew E. Iceberg; his great grandchildren: Ethan, Damon, Ella, Jillian, Emily, Amiya, Ava, Kameron and Aubrey; his brother: George Iceberg (Barbara) of Cross Plains; his sisters: Marlene Steuver (John) of Dillsboro, and Jeraldine Smith (George) of Aurora and his several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dietrich Henry Iceberg, died July 14, 1996 and Clara Mae (Voris) Iceberg, died June 26, 2012; his son-in-law: Graham Scott Welch, died October 20, 2001; his grandson: James Ryan Welch, died April 13, 1980; his sister: Stella Giltner; his brother-in-law: Dale Giltner; his nephews: Mark Giltner and James Steuver.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m., by Pastor Juan Luna, at the Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 5588 E. County Road 900 South Cross Plains (Dewberry), Indiana 47017. Interment will follow in the Saint Paul Cemetery, Cross Plains (Dewberry). Friends may call 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043 and from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Scott Welch Endowment Fund % Community Foundation of Switzerland County or to the Bear Branch Volunteer Fire Department. Cornelius E. Eckstein, 90, Sunman, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, Sunman.
