Richard E. “Dick” Block

Richard E. “Dick” Block, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away, Saturday, September 19, 2015. He was born on November 30, 1925 in Aurora, to the late Horace and Maude Mae (Dudgeon) Block.

Dick served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He then taught social studies at South Side High School starting in 1959 and retired as assistant principal in 1990. He was a member and leader of many educational and civic organizations throughout his long career. He was also faithful in his church, First Presbyterian, Fort Wayne, where he served as an usher, deacon and various other committees.

Surviving family include his four daughters, Teresa (Doug) Fogwell of Winfield, IL; Lisa (Peter) Hoffman, Susan (Jeff) Conley, Beth (Bruce) Dafforn; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson; and sisters, Dorothy Jewett, Mary Kieffer and Carolyn Hollins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Elizabeth (Ward) Block; two sisters, Esther and Vivian; and two brothers, Lewis and Charles.

Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2-7 pm on Wednesday, September 23 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. James H. Wright

James H. Wright, 74, of Canaan, passed away at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015, at his home. He was born at Ft. Thomas, Kentucky on April 3, 1941 and was married to Patricia Stoppiello on June 10, 1972 and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Bryan Wright of Cross Plains; four daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Roe of Sunman, Kelley (Thomas) Mess of West Harrison, Cheryl (Kenny) Mathews of Cross Plains, and Teri Wright of Oxford, Ohio; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wright was a truck driver and had also worked at the GM plant in Norwood, Ohio, until its closure in 1987. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming at his Switzerland County home and was particularly fond of his dogs.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Chris Kessen of the First Baptist/Restoration Church of Miamitown, Ohio officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Ripley County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.


Robert Thomas “Bob” Bladen

Robert Thomas “Bob” Bladen, 90, of Milton, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, near Madison. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Kathy L. Bender

Kathy L. Bender, 68, of Sunman, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 21 at St. Nicholas Church. Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) William Clinton Goodpasture

Lieutenant Colonel (RET) William Clinton Goodpasture, 93, of Worthville, Kentucky, formerly of Canaan, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison. Visitation will also be on Saturday, October 3 from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Madison.

Paul Thomas “Tom” Mix, Jr., 56, of Madison, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Burial will be in the Canaan Cemetery in Canaan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home in Madison.

Thelma Mae Myers Wilson

Thelma Mae Myers Wilson, 80, of Goshen, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on August 17, 2015 in Cincinnati, OH, after a long illness. Thelma was a 27-year employee at the Keebler Company in Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abbie and Harry Myers and grandmother, Minda Lewis of Rexville. Her twin sister, Alma Faye Julos, passed away June 13, 2015 in Anaheim, CA. Thelma was also predeceased by brothers, Paul, Albert and Wilbur Myers; and sisters, Virginia Dunn and Violet Tyler.

Thelma enjoyed genealogy, discovering who her ancestors were, who landed in Gloucester County, VA in the early 1600s. She also loved lighthouses, hummingbirds, butterflies and covered bridges. She was fond of animals, especially her cats Bella, Ruby and Freddy. Thelma loved when her blueberries were ready to pick. Her favorites were blueberry pancakes and anything else that could be prepared with those blueberries.

Thelma is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lantie Wilson, Jr. of Goshen, OH; daughter, Karla Jean Greulich and grandchildren Jordan and Merrick Greulich, all of Cincinnati. She is also survived by two sisters, Frances Myers of Sun City Center, FL and Marcella Oropesa of State College, PA, and numerous family members and dear friends. Burial will be at a later date.


Loretta M. Burton

Loretta M. Burton, 84, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born near Osgood on March 16, 1931, the daughter of Wilbur and Audrey Morrison Wilson. She was married to Robert Burton on August 7, 1949 and he preceded her in death on October 16, 2010. Survivors include one son, Ronald Burton of Guilford; one granddaughter, Michelle Bradley of Pickerington, OH; two great grandchildren, Danielle and Brandon Bradley; and one brother, Dilbert Wilson of Mt. Vernon. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister Francis Wingate; and brothers, Harold, Gary and Ronald Wilson.

Mrs. Burton was with her husband who served in the US Navy at different military installations throughout the country and world. They were in Cuba during the Cuban Blockade and the Bay of Pigs. Loretta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osgood and the Versailles Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Osgood with Rev. Don Buck and Rev. Steve Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Wednesday beginning at 12 p.m. and will also be at the church. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.


James W. Stevenson

James W. Stevenson, 86, of Westport, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the Morning Breeze Health Campus in Greensburg. He was born at home on Poplar Ridge in Jefferson County near Canaan on March 15, 1929, the son of Dale and Grace Elston Stevenson. He was married to Mary Lou Rose on February 27, 1970 and she preceded him in death on February 4, 2008.

Survivors include three sons, Gwen (Sharon) Stevenson of Munfordville, KY, Jamie Stevenson of Madison, and William Stevenson of Milroy; one daughter, Connie Purdum of Arvada, Colorado; one stepson, Jim Lattire of Columbus; one stepdaughter, Karla Howard of Athens, TN; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Green of Canaan and Mary (Bill) Konkle of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Stevenson was a former employee of Smith & Sons Garage in Versailles. He was also a trucker having driven for Baylor Trucking and also Delta Faucet. He also trucked independently hauling feed and water locally.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Adams Lutheran Cemetery near Batesville. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Adams Cemetery in care fo the funeral home.


Dana Ray Bressert

Dana Ray Bressert, 66, a lifelong resident of Dillsboro, passed away Friday morning, September 18, 2015 at Dearborn County Hospital. Dana was born on November 8, 1948 in Dillsboro to George and Evelyn (Richards) Bressert.

He graduated from Dillsboro High School in the class of 1966, and was employed at Aurora Casket Company for 40 years. On June 26, 1970 he married Judy Eaglin, and they were the parents of two sons, Daniel and Andrew. Dana formerly attended Dillsboro United Methodist Church, and loved old cars and watching dirt track racing in Lawrenceburg. He was a member of the Dillsboro American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bonnie Bressert. Surviving are his two sons and their wives, Daniel (Sheila) Bressert, of Versailles, and Andrew (Maria) Bressert, of Aurora; five grandchildren: Kory, Makenzie, Lane, Mahlon, and Leo Bressert; one sister, Madonna Gordon; three brothers: Chuck, Larry, and Randy Bressert; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Dana will be Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Pastor Dana Stout officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Memorials in his memory may be given to the family for a memorial to be decided at a later date. DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro, is in charge of arrangements.
