Jac-Cen-Del Eagles prepare to fly the flight pattern of a new leader in Coach Travis Stangland

Newly named Jac-Cen-Del Eagles Head Boys Basketball Coach Travis Stangland attended Columbia City High School and graduated in 2002 where he was a member of the 2001 Semi-State Runner-up Team, after falling to eventual state champion Muncie South that year. He was also a two time state qualifier in the high jump while in high school. Following high school graduation, he attended Ball State University and graduating in 2007 with a degree in business and marketing.

A warm welcome followed the formal introduction to players, parents, etc, of Jac-Cen-Del Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Travis Stangland pictured above.
Employment opportunities upon graduation steered Coach Stangland to Benjamin Rush Middle School where he was an assistant at various positions within the program, including JV/varsity assistant his final two years there. From there, Stangland became the varsity head coach at West Central High School in Francesville, Indiana, during the 2013-2014 season. While completing his one year obligation as West Central coach, he was offered and accepted the JV coaching position at Kokomo High School prior to moving to the varsity coaching position here at JCDHS.
Coach Stangland stated, “I envision continuing the success and tradition at Jac-Cen-Del. I always knew I would be a varsity coach again after leaving West Central but told myself that I would only apply and accept a job where basketball means something. I don’t think I could have gotten a better fit than Jac-Cen-Del.” He continued stating "Everyday our kids in our program need to know their shooting for the numbers 14, 5, 2, and 2. That would be the school's 14th Sectional Title, 5th Regional Title, 2nd Semi State, and 2nd State Title." adding, "The history is there, now it's time for our kids to write their own."
During his public introduction to the expected returning members of the 2015-16 team, their parents, the public and the press, Coach Stangland stated that no-one is automatically on or off of the team at this time. Much work is to be done in shorter time than usually afforded, but that in no means lessens the goals of the season nor diminishes the effort expected from each and every individual who aspires to be a contributing member of the squad.
