Gavin Michael Lee was born on September 22, 1999, in Batesville. He passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. The young, 15-year-old was a sophomore at Batesville High School.
Gavin loved playing baseball, having family game days and playing wiffle ball in the backyard at family gatherings. He also loved spending time with his four cats and three dogs.
Gavin is survived by his mother and stepfather, Kim and Shane Pickett of Versailles, and his father and stepmother, Jeremy and Cheryl Lee of Batesville; his brother Christian Lee; maternal grandparents Barb and Tom Thompson, and paternal grandparents Roger Lee and Peggy Lee; maternal great grandmother Gen Scheidt, along with his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Semi-private funeral services were held Saturday, July 11, at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Memorials may be given to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital c/o the funeral home. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, was in charge of arrangements.
Orga Faye Hillman
A memorial service for Orga Faye Hillman has been set for 10 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 8930 St. Rd. 101, Sunman, In. 47041. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
Orga Brashear Hillman was born in Viper, Kentucky, on Thursday, November 23, 1922, the daughter of Preston and Lucy (Caudill) Brashear. She died in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday, July 5, 2015. She was 92 years of age. Orga was a 1940 graduate of Milan High School. She married Howard Hillman on September 5, 1942. Orga worked for Broken Arrow Public Schools in the cafeteria for over 20 years. She enjoyed baking and cooking, reading and working puzzles. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and watched the girls play fast-pitch softball. She and Howard spent many years traveling in their RV.
Orga is survived by daughters, Pam Kaiser (Earl) of Milan, Marcia Yurczyk (Randy) of Whitestown, Kendra Robinson (Mark) of Broken Arrow, OK; and son Jim Hillman of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren Kevin (Melissa) Kaiser; Jason (Amy) Kaiser; Kayla (Stephen) Robison, Alana and Sophie Yurczyk, and Jake Huddleston; great grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremy) Castletine, Bo, Macy, Cole and Megan Kaiser; Kamrie and Kyler Robison. Orga is also survived by two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, November 28, 2012, little son, Howard Jr. (Buster); brothers, Otto, Omar, James, George, sister Pansy Green, and her parents.

Esther E. Gilliland
Esther E. Gilliland, 98, of Olean, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Friendship on March 23, 1917, the daughter of Jesse and Hulda Vinup Linkmeyer. She was married to Howard Schwake on September 11, 1935 and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1966. She was married to William Gilliland in November of 1969 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2008.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Spencer and her companion Ted Jones of Madison; three granddaughters, Debbie (Robert) Hudson of New Albany, Teresa Gerth of Austin, and Marsha (John) Uhl of Madison; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou (Allen) Narwold of Batesville. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Linkmeyer, and her sisters Ruth Cutter, Dorothy Schwoeppe, and Thelma Hiner.
Mrs. Gilliland attended the St. John Lutheran School in Farmers Retreat, a walk she made from Friendship every day. She was a full-time homemaker and enjoyed her gardening, and her home in Olean was always adorned with the roses she had attended. She enjoyed visiting and receiving visits from her family and friends, and she was a big fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV. Esther was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Olean where she participated in the WELCA and the Martha Circle.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 11 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Curtis Black officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery at Olean. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Peters Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
