Ripley County 4-H horse staff successfully meet the challenge, head on

Area 1 Horse and Pony Show President Sarah Adams, who is also a leader for the Ripley Wranglers Horse and Pony 4-H Club, relayed the results of a multi-county horse competition held June 14 and 15 at Ripley County Fairgrounds It was the first time in over 20 years that the annual event was not held at the Hoosier Horse park in Edinburgh.

The traditional 4-H Youth Horse Show event of nearly 20 years of successful running in Edinburgh suddenly became unfeasible to be held there; so, there was a possibility of having no competition this year. However, dedication by Ripley County 4-H Fair Horse Club department leaders and volunteer personnel refused to let the event die. They took the rein on the large task of putting on the two-day event, thus jump starting another annual horse event for 4-Hers right here in our very own backyard.

Numerous local people gave of their time to see a 20-year tradition of horse competition for area 4-Hers continue, hats off to each and everyone who helped to put this competition together. The event encompassed a 10-county circuit of 4-H Horse & Pony Club competitors in every imaginable breakdown of competition, which included the offering of 107 different events in total, ranging in class by size of horse, age of horse and the age of competitor, with classes for leading, riding, costuming, etc. A horse lovers dream.
