Violet R. Baker, 92, of Osgood, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born in Cincinnati on September 21, 1922, the daughter of Irvin and Margaret Schmelling Keller. She was married to James Richard Baker on September 9, 1944 and he preceded her in death on March 2, 1986.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Robert) Brown of Canaan; three granddaughters, Laura (Darren) Cole of Batesville, Belinda (Robert) Cole of Versailles, and Rebecca (Richard) Scott of Batesville, and also six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baker was a 1940 graduate of Western Hills High School in Cincinnati. She worked in customer service for Sears at the Florence Mall, retiring in 1985. In 1996 she moved to Buckeye Village in Osgood where she enjoyed her retirement and in particular the Meal Site activities. In 2011 she became a resident of the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. Violet was a long time member of the Versailles Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at the Versailles Church of Christ with Dale Day officiating. Entombment will take place at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Vine Street Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Church of Christ or the Activities Fund of the Manderley Health Care Center in care of the funeral home.
Virginia Kessens
Virginia Kessens, 84, of Batesville, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Born August 17, 1930 in Batesville, she was the daughter of Walter & Freda (Henry) Kessens.
Virginia was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads, a member of the Leisure Ladies of the church, former church council member and she helped serve many funeral meals. She was on the executive committee at St. Andrews, a volunteer group, and a member of the Red Hat Ladies.
Virginia is survived by her nieces Donna Harrelson and Shirley Nuhring and nephews Leslie Kessens, Robert Kessens and Kenneth Kessens. She will also be missed by many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Earl and Virgil Kessens, niece Kathleen Krieger and nephew Gary Kessens.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 4 from 10–10:30 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads with Pastor Sue Socha officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Ruth Ellis
Ruth Ellis, 88, of Ellisville, Missouri, formerly of Osgood, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 at West View Assisted Living in Ellisville, Missouri. She was the daughter of David and Clara Miller Tyree. Ruth married Paul Edward Ellis August 30, 1951 and he preceded her in death on January 24, 2003.
Ruth and her husband had lived in the Osgood area and were very active with the Osgood Baptist Church and other community activities. Shortly after her husbands death, she had moved to Missouri to be near her daughter. Ruth was known for her love and talent of quilting and she loved to sing. She sang with the church choir while in Osgood and continued singing with a group when she moved to Missouri.
Survivors include sons, Jimmy (Debbie) Edwards of Aurora and Paul Edward (Donna) Ellis Jr. of West New York, New Jersey; daughter, Tammy Lyn (Mark) Mooney of Chesterfield, Missouri; brother, Roy Tyre of California; sister, Mary Jane Handley of West Virginia; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Melvin and David Tyree, and one sister, Dorothy Funk.
Funeral services will be held all in one day, Sat., March 7, at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 10 a.m.-12 Noon and funeral services following. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Napoleon. Memorials may be given to the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery or Osgood First Baptist Church c/o funeral home.
