Alice J. Suratt


Alice J. Suratt, 91, Greensburg, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg. Born July 27, 1923, in Winchester, Indiana, she was the daughter of Orla L. “Pat” and Estrella (Lake) Davis. She was married to John Robert Suratt on March 28, 1942 and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2005.

She is survived by two daughters, Robbie (Danny) Evans, Osgood and Alice Anne Hogue, Indianapolis; one brother, Robert Davis; five grandchildren, Tammy (Todd) Borgman, Scott (Jan) Brattain, Tyler Hogue, Jane (Randy) Hammons and Robert (Angie) Evans; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two brothers, Loland Davis, Jimmy Davis; one sister, Mary Olive Keys.

Alice graduated from Winchester High School in 1942. Alice and Robert had previously owned Meadow Gold Dairy in Greensburg, Franke’s Dairy in Columbus and Dunbar & Bultman Dairy in Osgood. Alice and family enjoyed showing registered quarter horses for many years. She also was an artist and had taught art to many throughout Decatur County. She also had worked as a bookkeeper for Minears. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Delta Theta Tau Sorority.

Memorial services will be held at a later time. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.popfuneralhome.com.


Heidrun “Heidi” Smith

Heidrun “Heidi” Smith, 72, of Cross Plains, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at her home. She was born in Berlin, Germany on September 8, 1942, the daughter of Wilhelm and Frida Hedwig Morgenstern. She was married to Darrell Smith on August 24, 2000 and he survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Marina Ibsch of Berlin; two sons, Daniel (Tina) Trappman, and Jan (Claudia) Trappman both of Kispie, Germany; stepchildren, Carolyn (Peter) Lukes of Italy, and Belinda Smith and Kevin Smith both of Berlin, Germany; six grandchildren; two sisters, Jutta Flohr of Berlin, and Monika (Jan) Rochtus of Belgium; one half-brother, Uwe (Christal) Morgenstern of Berlin.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and had worked for the Postal Service in Germany.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at 12 p.m. at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Akers Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Bear Creek Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.


Deborah Ann Bergman

Deborah Ann Bergman, 49, of Milan, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. at Hope Baptist Church on US 50. She will be laid to rest in Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Friends may meet her family Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the family to help with expenses. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.


John E. Fischer

John E. Fischer, 87, of Moores Hill, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015. Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aurora, on Tuesday, March 17, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge, KY. Memorials may be given to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Dearborn County Home Health & Hospice.
