Michael “Mike” L. Simpson

Michael “Mike” L. Simpson, 63, Madison, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at Kentuckiana Medical Center, Clarksville. He was born November 20, 1952 in Beech Grove, the son of Robert “Bob” Simpson and Nellie Simpson Pickard. Mike was united in marriage on June 6, 1997 to Diane Dunlap in Carrollton, Kentucky, and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Misti Simpson-Hunt and her husband, Dusty of Florence; two sons, Dustin Simpson and his companion, Charlotte of Salem, Oregon, Eric Simpson and his wife, Tasha of Charlestown; his stepdaughter, Lori Little and her companion, Rob Ciccarella of Vevay; his grandsons, Alex and Maddox; his brother, Donald Simpson and his wife, Bev of Dillsboro; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sue Barnes of Bedford, Kentucky, Pamela Harris and her husband, Jamie of Madison, Mark Dunlap and his wife, Marcia of Madison; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Simpson, died May 1, 1999; his mother, Nellie Simpson Pickard, died August 3, 2013; his stepmother, Louise Simpson, died Nov. 5, 1994; his stepfather, Arlie Pickard; his stepson, Jeff Whittaker, died April 11, 2001; his mother-in-law, Lorene “Tootsie” Dunlap; his brothers-in-law, Larry “Bubba” Dunlap and Lewis Barnes.

Mr. Simpson was raised in Vevay and was a 1970 graduate of Switzerland County High School. After high school he worked at the Vevay Dairy Queen and had attended Ivy Tech business classes. Mike then began a career with U.S. Shoe Corporation until 2000. He then worked a short time for Arvin Sango and Grote Industries in Madison. In 2006 Mike began working as a quality control inspector for North American Stainless near Ghent until his death. Mike also helped his dad mow cemeteries in Switzerland County and continued after the death of his dad until 2001. Mike had resided in Madison since 1984 and was a faithful member of Cedar Creek Community Church in Osgood, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and was the adult Sunday school teacher. Mike found great peace and fellowship being mentored by Rev. Garland Rudd. His belief in his savior Jesus Christ showed in his prayers and ministry. He was a fellow mason with Union Lodge No. 2 F. & A.M. in Madison. Mike loved fishing, reading his Bible, mowing, riding motorcycles, golf, dancing, music, socializing, watching IU Basketball, Bengal’s Football and Cincinnati Reds Baseball.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 17 from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service funeral home. Union Masonic Lodge No. 2 F. & A.M. will conduct services on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Cedar Creek Community Church, contribution cards are available at the funeral home. John Wayne Terry

John Wayne Terry, 62, Dillsboro, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 15, 2015. A family service will be held at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro on Friday, December 18 at 4 p.m. Friends may meet his family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Ressie Nokomis Smith

Ressie Nokomis Smith, 81, Milan, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at Washington Baptist Cemetery, Dillsboro. Velma Marie Harmon


Velma Marie Monroe Harmon, 91, Osgood, was born January 21, 1924 at Osgood. She was the daughter of the late Ferman and Katie Massing Pratt. Velma married James Monroe November 11, 1967 and he preceded her in death on October 14, of 1993. She later married Charles Harmon on June 10 of 1995 and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2010.

Velma had lived in the Osgood area all of her life. In her earlier years, she had worked for the Vines Egg Company and Gilland Nursing Home both of which had been located in Osgood. She also had been a member of the Osgood American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. On Monday evening, December 14, 2015 Velma passed away at The Waters in Batesville.

She is survived by daughter Christina (Donald) Wright of Osgood; brother Richard Pratt of Osgood; sisters Ruth Day of Port Orange, Florida and Elizabeth Grossman of Holton; grandchildren: Stephanie Wright and Krystle (Joshua) Smith of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Pratt and 1 sister, Agnes Pratt.

Funeral services will be held all in one day, Saturday, Dec. 19 at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Margaret Mary Hospice c/o funeral home. Edward Ernest Mazzanti, 85, passed away Sat., December 12, 2015 at his home in Redondo Beach, CA . Visitation will be Saturday, December 19 from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, 1150 St. Rd. 46E, Batesville, IN 47006.
