In Eighth grade action, however, the hosting South Ripley Raiders held firm to collect the championship trophy, behind Coach Jeff Greiwe. Coach Greiwe reports, “Both South Ripley teams won their opening games against Waldron. Eighth grader, Kaleb Rinear scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to pace the Raiders to a 46-20 victory over the Mohawks.” That win propelled SR into the championship game against the JCD Eagles, who defeated Southwestern in their first round game. After trailing 5-7 at the end of one, the Raiders put together a strong second quarter to take a 16-10 half-time advantage.
South Ripley maintained the lead, hitting some important free throws late in the 4th to seal a 37-29 win and claim the championship. Dakota Day scored 10 with 4 rebounds, while Eric Vickers added 7 and 7 rebounds. The Jac-Cen-Del 8th grade boys basketball team is led by Coach Anthony Moorman, with former Coach Brad Goldsberry moving to the JCDHS JV Boys Basketball team coaching position.
