2015 ORVC Girls Basketball Jamboree held

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

On Saturday afternoon, October 31, Halloween no less, the ORVC (Ohio River Valley Conference) held the annual presentation of the seven member schools girls varsity basketball teams debuting on the hardwood at Jac-Cen-Del High School. The event pulled a larger crowd than many seasons, likely due to where it was held. No one wants to show too much in their debut; however, just enough to get a taste of what might be on the up and coming season’s challenge ability.

Jac-Cen-Del vs Switzerland Co.
As host, Coach Scott Smith’s traditionally solid Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles opened first period action against the visiting Switzerland County Lady Pacers, led again in 2015-16 by Coach Ashley Chase Kitts. After a second center court attempt at the toss to start the battle, Lady Eagles Day secured the tip but to a Lady Pacer. Following the Lady Pacers inability to score first, senior Lady Eagle Jordan Day scorched the net with her first three pointer of the season. A free throw connection of two attempted by Lady Pacer senior Kelsi Konkle brought the score to 1-3. Lady Eagle senior Abby Wagner connected on a FG for 5-1. Lady Pacer Brooke Todd countered for 3-5. Todd added a FT of two shot, leading to Lady Eagle junior Kayla Bowling matching with the 1 of two FT connections, 4-6. Sophomore Lady Eagle Morgan Carroll added a FG score for the 8-4 JCD lead. Lady Pacer Todd added a pair of FT connections, 6-8; however, Lady Eagle junior Rosie Newhart countered with a pair of FT connections of her own 10-6. Lady Eagle Jordan Day added two more FT connections, 12-6.
