The Jac-Cen-Del varsity soccer team competed victoriously against a traditional rival the South Ripley Raiders on Monday, September 15, at South Ripley High School followed by a Wednesday Sept. 17 Eagles victory in their match against the visiting Milan Indians.

Eagles vs. Raiders
Played on the SRHS soccer field, the JCD/SR event was not just a game but a battle for possession of the SRHS Matt Obendorf Traveling Trophy. Coach Jones and the Eagles brought the trophy to the game, having had previous possession of it, and once again following their winning effort, returned to the Eagles Nest with possession until they next meet the Raiders in regular season action.

After a delay for a brief shower and clearing of area skies, back to the field they went, where the Eagles efforts produced a solid 4-0 victory. First-half action found the Eagles connecting for one goal, a first goal score ever for JCD’s Maverick Dwenger. There was no further scoring accomplished by either side in the remainder of the first half action. Carrying the 1-0 lead to second half play, the Eagles were able to connect for three more scores, while holding SR scoreless to a final count of 4-0. Eagle Tyler Huff connected for two JCD goals. Jac-Cen-Del’s Thiago Stronemberg (Kapps) added a goal score and was credited with a goal assist. Playing goalkeeper all but three minutes for the Eagles was starter Devon Wilson, with Mason Powers covering for about three minutes at the second half’s onset. Stopping a flood of Eagles attempted goal shots, South Ripley goalkeeper Avery Halcomb was pleased to see this battle come to a close. At game’s conclusion in the pouring rain, JCD Eagle senior team members Riley Thomas, Blake Straub, Keith Simon, Eli Wagner and Cameron Horan were presented the traveling Matt Obendorf Memorial Soccer Trophy by his children, Ben and Lauren Obendorf, before heading back to JCDHS for dry clothes. The scheduled JV half between JCD and SR following varsity action, was curtailed due to darkness.

Eagles vs. Indians
The Wednesday, Sept. 17 varsity co-ed soccer team’s action at JCDHS for the Eagles resulted in a 7-1 victory over a greatly improved Milan Indians lot. The addition of a multitude of freshman Lady Indians and Indians freshman boys to the team have given new hope to the Milan program, which includes the initiation of an all girls team getting their feet wet this season.

JCD varsity game action
Blake Straub was the benefactor of scoring three goals with an assist to his credit. Thiago Kronemberg (Kapps) scored two goals and contributed with four goal assists. Tyler Huff added another goal score to his ever-increasing tally along with a first varsity goal score ever by teammate Allen Troy to culminate at seven for the game for the team. Scorer of record for the tribe was not disclosed, however, starting Eagle goal keeper Devon Wilson shared time in the goal for the game with teammate Mason Powers. The JV period action found JCD the 4-0 leader at its conclusion, following Devon Wilson’s scoring of two goals, while Reis Troy and Dillon Engel each added a goal score apiece. Powers handled goalkeeper duties for JCD during the JV period. The JCD Eagles varsity victory left their season overall record at 7-2-2 and 6-1-1 in ORVC conference competition battles.

Eagles vs. Shiners
With every game becoming more and more important in determining the 2014 ORVC conference champion, hitting the road for the JCD Eagles versus hosting Rising Sun Shiners varsity action on Sept. 22, results were of great importance, making it a big game for whichever team could render a victory. Scoring somewhat quickly and far too often, as game action progressed, the hosting Shiners had put three goals into the JCD net before half of the first period had been played out. The Eagles didn’t lay down and play dead just because of the 0-3 deficit, as they managed to put a pair of scores on the scoreboard for themselves to trail by just one with almost a full half of final period action remaining. That, however, would not get the job done for JCD, as the Shiners rallied to add a fourth score while holding JCD to the two already on the scoreboard. With their desired victory over JCD, Rising Sun managed to advance their season record without the stain of a loss. Jac-Cen-Del on the other hand found their overall season record fading to a 6-2 and 1 ORVC tally, with overall standings at 7-3-2. Scoring for the Eagles were from Tyler Huff off the goal assist by teammate Blake Straub, with JCD’s second score off the foot of Patrick Holt with the assist to Thiago Kronemberg (Kapps).

JV action
Eagles-Shiners reserve period action resulted in a 2-2 tie, with the Eagle scorers recorded as Dillon Engle and Blake Smith.
