Brush Creek Crushers continue their march to Nationals

Local youth shooters did very well at the Indiana State Shoot July 8-13. The Brush Creek Crushers youth shooting team shot on Tuesday for the state AIM competition.

The senior squad consisting of Ethan Cumberworth, Colton Bright, Jake Vannatta, Baleigh Bentz and Nick Wilson placed third with a score of 437 out of 500 targets. The squad had to shoot in the wind all day, which made for an interesting day of shooting. Ethan Cumberworth and Colby Bush both won individual awards that day.

For the actual state shooting events, Caleb Cumberworth won junior singles champion on Saturday with a score of 198 out of 200, which earned him the opportunity to shoot at the Grand Nationals in Sparta, Illinois, in the Champion of Champions event in August. Jake Vannatta was runner-up sub junior for singles and winner of the sub junior handicap on Sunday. Colton Bright shot all week at the state shoot winning many events throughout the week. Due to his high scores, Colton won High Above All and High Over All Sub Junior Shooter for the Indiana State Shoot. Coach Mike Cumberworth said, “Even though the kids struggled on AIM day, the boys shot well on ATA for the state shoot when they needed to.” He went on to say he was very pleased with their performance at the Indiana state shoot as well as Kentucky and Ohio

The kids are now focusing on the Grand Nationals coming up in early August at Sparta, Illinois.
Several shooters will be shooting three days with a total of 900 targets.
