Gerald B. Walthers

Gerald B. Walthers, 74, of Milan, passed away Friday afternoon, July 11, 2014, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born February 5, 1940, in Milan, the son of Wilbur and Corrine (nee Miller) Walthers. He lived on the family farm with his brother Harry Mockbee until age 14 and then resided in group homes in the Batesville area.

Gerald was employed at New Horizons for several years. He enjoyed the animals on the farm, loved tractors and collecting hats.

He is survived by his brother, Harry Mockbee of Milan; a nephew, John (Belinda) Mockbee of Versailles; and two nieces, Ruth (Gordon) Shinkle of Lawrenceburg and Nancy (Scott) Kohlmeier of Greendale. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sisters; nephew Kenneth Mockbee; and sister-in-law Lois Mockbee.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Pastor Gordon Shinkle officiating. Friends may meet his family on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be given to LifeTime Resources in Gerald’s memory.

Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro, is in charge of arrangements.


John Carlie Wilson, Jr.

John Carlie Wilson Jr., 75, of Osgood, was born May 4, 1939, in Wheatley, Kentucky. He was the son of the late John Carlie and Nancy Edwards Wilson. John married Marjorie Maxine Burress on August 2, 1969, and she preceded him in death November 13, 2007.

John passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood.

John worked as a truck driver for Sharon Brown of Greensburg for 21 years, retiring in April of 2006. He was a past member of the Osgood Odd Fellows, the Eagles Club of Greensburg, and the Moose Lodge of North Vernon. He also had attended Bethany Baptist Church in Osgood.

Survivors include sons, David Burress of New Marion and James Burress of Anderson; daughters, Nancy Ritchie of Osgood and Marilyn Biddinger of Greensburg; brothers, Chester Edwards of Columbus, Georgia, and Larry Bowin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters, Nancy Booher of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; Treva Roberts of Dillsboro; Brenda Eckelberg and Mary Crystal Farr both of Wisconsin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Cayton.
