Helen Louise Stearns, 93, of North Vernon, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon. Memorials may be made through the funeral home for expenses. Marjorie Emma (Cutter) Meyer
Marjorie Emma (Cutter) Meyer was born on September 25, 1926, the daughter of William F. and Flora (Vornheder) Cutter, of Cass Township, Ohio County. She was baptized on October 13, 1926, in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Bear Branch, by Pastor A.W. Borchardt. Her sponsor was Emma Vornheder.
She was confirmed on May 13, 1939, by Pastor George Pflueger. Her confirmation verse was “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. Isaiah 54:10.
She was an active lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bear Branch. Marjorie participated in Luther League, Fellowship Group, WELCA, and served as the church organist for 63 years. She attended grade school at Clay Bank, then four years at Rising Sun High School, graduating in 1944. While in grade school she loved to spell. She won the written test six out of seven years and two oral spelling bees in 7th and 8th grades.
Marjorie was employed at Joseph E. Seagrams for 16 years working on the bottle line. On February 8, 1958, she was united in marriage to Harold Martin Meyer at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bear Branch by Pastor Gerald Herbener. To this union they were blessed by one daughter, Denise.
On Sunday evening, May 4, 2014, Marjorie entered her heavenly home from Christ Hospital in Cincinnati at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 27 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Flora Cutter; two brothers, Raymond and Norman Cutter; two sisters, Anita Cutter and Eleanor Selmeyer; two sisters-in-law, Helen Cutter and Marcella Cutter, and one brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Cordula Meyer.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Harold; and daughter, Denise (Keith) Ross; two grandsons, Jasper and Hunter Ross; her brother, Marvin Cutter, of Dillsboro. Also surviving are several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces, and one sister and brother-in-law, and several cousins. She was honored to be the godmother of Daryl Cutter and Katelyn Bruns-Vollmer.
Family and friends may meet her family on Friday, May 9 at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bear Branch, with Pastor Pamela Thiede officiating. She will be laid to rest at Althoff Cemetery in Bear Branch. The family suggests memorials be given to St. Peter Cemetery in Bear Branch or to the Dillsboro Life Squad. DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
