Lester Holman


Lester C. Holman, 77, of New Marion passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. He was born near New Marion on July 29, 1937, the son of Truman and Amelia Geisler Holman. He was married to Rene Kendall on July 24, 1970 and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2006. He then married Mary Ann Tenney Parshall and she survives.

Other survivors include one son David (Kim) Holman of Madison; four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers Harry (Bernadette) Holman and Roy (Vickie) Holman both of Versailles; three sisters Dina Herbert and Brenda Holman both of Millhouse, and Myrtie (Frank) Franklin of Holton. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leslie, and his sister Darlene Holman.

Mr. Holman was a 1957 graduate of New Marion High School and served a short stint in the US Army. He was a 30-year employee of Contel where worked as a lineman supervisor and was also employed with Holman Septic Sales in New Marion. Lester was a member of the West Fork Baptist Church and the Kentuckiana- Clarksville Harley Owners Group. In his spare time, Lester enjoyed woodworking and was an accomplished artist.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 7, at 11 a.m. at the West Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Karen Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the West Fork Cemetery in care of the funeral home.


James Robert Dunbar

James Robert Dunbar, 94, of Milan passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Ripley Crossing. He was born November 7, 1920, in Delaware the son of Everett B. and Helen Monroe Dunbar. He married Mary Kathleen Heck on June 29, 1946 and she preceded him in death May 27, 2000.

He attended school in the Osgood area and then went on to attend Purdue University where he graduated receiving a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He and his wife Katie had lived in California and he worked for Rockwell International in Redondo Beach and later for McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach. He was a WWII army veteran. Other memberships included the Osgood United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge #603 of Osgood; former member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Osgood; was a member of the Ripley County Historical Society, former member of the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers; life member of the Nat’l Mgmt. Assoc.; member of Clan Dunbar Assoc. of America and member of Clan Munro Association of America and Scotland.

His sister Mary Ellen Alrich of Osgood and many nieces and nephews survive him.

Services will be held all in one day, Thursday, December 4, at Neal’s Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Mud Pike Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mud Pike Cemetery or Osgood United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood.
