Donald E. Hunger
Donald E. Hunger, 81, of Versailles passed away Thursday, November 19, 2014, at his home. He was born at Benham on March 1, 1933, the son of Willard and Roberta Steele Hunger. He was married to Edna “Polly” Pollard on February 9, 1952 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons Ron (Michelle) Hunger of Versailles and Jim (Jennifer) Hunger of Scottsburg; two daughters Sue (Lee) Buchanan and Shirley (Tracy) Lemon both of Versailles; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers Ernest Lee (Kay) Hunger and Larry (Esther) Hunger both of Benham; three sisters Anita (David) Giltner of Holland, Michigan, Karen (Ramone) Sauley of Hanover, and Becky Hunger of Louisville; sisters-in-law Ruth Hunger of Versailles and Eileen (Frank) LaGreca of Dillsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Angela Marie Hunger Hoskins, great-grandchild McKinley Carver Pennington, and his brothers Willard Keith Hunger and Paul Arnold Hunger.
Mr. Hunger was a 1951 graduate of Cross Plains High School. He spent his entire career as a truck driver beginning work for his father at the age of 16. In 1956 he founded Donald Hunger Trucking and through the years was subcontracted for B & H Trucking, Lawrenceburg Trucking, River Bend Transport, Laughery Valley Ag, and Reis Trucking before retiring in 2010. Donald was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Olean and was also a member of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 24 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastor Curtis Black officiating. Burial was in St. Peters Cemetery at Olean. Memorials may be given to the Angela Hoskins Scholarship Fund, Matt’s Mission, or St. Paul Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home. Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, was entrusted with arrangements.
Ernest Lee Fuehrer
Ernest Lee Fuehrer, 74, of Danville, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Danville Regional Rehab Center. He was born near Cross Plains on May 9, 1940, the son of Paul and Nora Hankins Fuehrer.
Survivors include two brothers Reece (Carolyn) Fuehrer of Danville and Danny (Helen) Fuehrer of Richmond, Kentucky; two sisters Pauline Macal of Anoka, Minnesota and Linda (Yogi) Henderson of Rockville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl, Clifton, and Max Fuehrer, and his sisters Viola Fuehrer and Evelyn Griffith.
Fuehrer had been a resident of the rehab center since 1999 and enjoyed participating in the facility’s activities including bingo and attending church services. He also enjoyed watching basketball and Colts football.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Dale Day officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12 p.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Benham Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Howard Evertt Shafer
Howard Evertt Shafer Jr., 60, of Osgood, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 24 at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Burial was in the St. Peter’s Old Cemetery near Osgood. Memorials may be given to the family. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, was in charge of arrangements. www.nealsfuneralhome.net.
