Martha M. Oberting Schoeff, 86, of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday morning, October 4, 2014 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Martha was born February 28, 1928, in Covington, Ky., to Chester Lawrence Ransom and Mildred Moorhead Ransom.
Following graduation from high school, Martha graduated from Mt. St. Joseph College. In 1946 she married Paul Oberting, and he passed away in 1992. On April 12, 1992, Martha married Marlin Dale Schoeff, and he passed away on May 11, 2011. Martha was a skilled caregiver. She took care of her first husband, Paul Oberting, during his illness, and also several patients in nursing homes for several years. She was employed for a time as activities director at Terrace View Nursing Home in Lawrenceburg. Martha sold insurance for a while and did secretarial work. She was a Brownie leader and Cub Scout leader, as well as a youth choir director.
Preceding her in death besides her two husbands, was a brother, L.D. Ransom.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Jeff and Kathy Oberting of Moores Hill; one daughter and her husband, Janeen and Gary McGuire of Dillsboro; five grandchildren, Matt and Kelly Oberting, Sara and Shawn Murray, Dawn and Stacy Martin, Kalen Purcell (Brandy Richardson), and Kevin and Amanda Purcell; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Savannah, Delia, Lola Purcell, Austin and Kirsten Murray, Alyssa and Sam Martin, and Alexis and Lucas Oberting.
The funeral service for Martha will be Tuesday, October 7, at 1 p.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Pastor Tito Pell of Moores Hill Church of Christ officiating. She will be laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery in Aurora next to her first husband, Paul Oberting. Friends may meet her family at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the service time. Memorials may be given in her memory to Hospice of Dearborn County, the Diabetes Foundation, or to the Alzheimers Association. DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
