Annual Emily Mathes Memorial Scholarship fundraiser game

In honor and in memory of a dear young lady, Emily Mathes, close friends, classmates and family paid tribute to her with a scholarship fundraiser, culminating with the annual volleyball game between Milan and Emily’s home school, South Ripley. This was the third year for the fundraising event and it holds special meaning as it would be her high school graduating year, 2015.

Over $3,000 was raised to contribute to her scholarship memorial fund from the sale of T-shirts and donations, that will be used to annually award college scholarships to two SR students and one Milan or Jac-Cen-Del student seeking further education in the fields of medicine or education, her chosen fields of study. Her Christian faith along with an ever-pleasant, cheerful and shining smile drew others to her like a magnet throughout her life that was cut short by an ATV accident on May 14, 2012. Through the scholarship memorial fund, she continues to shine brightly for others. Many thanks are expressed to all who help in any way to keep her loss an act of positivity through the memorial scholarship for others.
Altering between the two schools every year, this year’s volleyball games were contested at the Milan High School on September 29. The JV team action resulted in a South Ripley Lady Raider 2-0 Match Victory with game scores of:
SR 25-15 Milan
SR 25-24 Milan
The varsity team action resulted in a best of a five game rubber match to 15 to determine the match winner. The Milan Lady Indian Varsity sealed the 3-2 match victory after posting game scores of:
SR 21-25 Milan*
SR 27-29 Milan*
SR 25-17 Milan
SR 25-20 Milan
SR 10-15 Milan*
