Sandra Medcalf Blair
Sandra Medcalf Blair, 60, of Osgood, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus. She was born May 31, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Juanita Williams Medcalf. She married Ronald David Blair in Springfield, IL, on October 28, 1983, and he survives.
Other survivors include her daughters, Kelly Blair of Osgood and Laura Chandler (Dylan) of Cross Plains; granddaughter, Emily Lucille Chandler of Cross Plains; brothers, Louis Medcalf (Sandra) of Hermitage, TN, Tom Medcalf (Karen) of Middletown, OH and Russell Medcalf (Beverly) of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents. |
Sandra was a 1971 graduate of the North College Hill High School. She attended the University of Cincinnati graduating in 1975 with a degree in business and accounting.
Sandra and Ronald moved to the Osgood community in 1986. She had worked 12 years as a library assistant for the Milan and Osgood Libraries. She enjoyed being active in the Versailles Church of Christ, singing and crocheting.
Funeral services will be held Wed., Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Versailles Church of Christ in Versailles with Brother Dale Day officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in Cross Plains. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. at the church and from Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Salem Cemetery, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.

Barry Lawrence Holliday
Barry Lawrence Holliday, 66, of Osgood, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home. He was born April 16, 1947 in Batesville, the son of Emil Paul and Ada M. Holliday. He married Vickie “De Dee” Bradshaw on September 9, 1972 and she survives at home.
Barry was a past 38-year employee of Delta Faucet, Greensburg. He and his wife also owned and operated the Country Restoration Shop located in Osgood for 38 years. He loved doing the caning of furniture. Memberships included St. John’s Church of Osgood and the Ripley County Humane Society. Barry loved animals, cooking, flowers and gardening. He also loved his community and will be sadly missed by his family and so many friends.
Survivors include his wife, De Dee Holliday of Osgood; sister, Vinda (Gary) Sund of Seattle, Washington; nephews, Erik K. Sund of Seattle, WA, John Bradshaw of Westerville, OH; and great niece and nephew, Madeline and Grayden Bradshaw, also of Westerville, OH; niece, Beth (Chris) Gregory of Brownstown; great niece Corrine Gregory of Brownstown.
There will be private family services at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Ripley County Humane Society c/o the funeral home.

Freda Mae Volz Pleak
Freda Mae Volz Pleak, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2014. She was born Nov. 3, 1920 in Lookout of Ripley County, the daughter of Alex and Mary Catherine (Mamie Crum) Volz.
Freda grew up as member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Ripley County. She married Walter Eugene Pleak on July 26, 1941 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. Freda and Walter worked side-by side for 55 years at Pleak’s Do-It Center.
Freda belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Delta Tau Delta sorority. Freda was an outstanding cook, pie maker, and baker, often cooking meals for local nuns. Freda was a 1938 graduate of Osgood High School.
Freda is survived by two children, Cheryl (Rock) Linville of Greensburg, Richard (Terri) Pleak of Greensburg; two grandchildren Sonja Linville of Greensburg, and Alex Linville of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Mamie, two sisters Evelyn Pitts and Viola Damm, two brothers Louis and Charles Volz, her husband Walter Eugene Pleak, and son Walter Eugene Pleak, Jr.
A celebration of life was held Monday, Jan. 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund. Alvin “Al” Barrett
Alvin “Al” Barrett, 56, of Versailles, formerly of Osgood, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014. He was born Monday, April 22, 1957 in Owsley County, KY, the son of the late Jessie Barrett and Delphia Bishop Barrett.
Al was self employed, owning Al’s Landscaping.He was a member of the North Vernon Church of Christ. Al loved the outdoors, he enjoyed turkey, deer, squirrel, and rabbit hunting, and fishing. But most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are wife, Tammy Barrett of Versailles; mother Delphia Barrett of Booneville, KY; children, Amy (Brian) Oliver of Holton, Alvin “A.J.” (Kelsie Neal) Barrett of Union, KY; siblings, Mitchell (Goldie) Barrett of Booneville, KY, Calvin Barrett of Beattyville, KY, Hazel (Alvin) Svatba of Cross Plains, Debbie Barrett of Booneville, KY, Kim (Chuck) Gullion of Holton, Gordon (Amy) Barrett of Versailles; grandchildren, Ashley, Jesse, Hunter, Heidi and Tanner. He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Barrett.
Friends will be received from 12-2:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora. Services will be held at the funeral home, immediately following visitation at 2:30 p.m. with Bro. James Pedigo officiating. Interment will follow in the Holton Cemetery.
