The Fish and Wildlife Committee is an organization that wears two hats. The Laughery Valley Fish and Game Protective Association also serves as the Fish and Wildlife Committee of Historic Hoosier Hills. Our group carries out some actvities in the name of Laughery Valley and some activities as the Fish and Wildlife Committee. We are dedicated to positive conservation practices and the safe, responsible, and ethical pursuit of fish and game and the shooting sports. Activities include sponsoring and conducting dozens of Indiana Hunter Education classes to instill in young people and adults an attitude of respect and concern in those who share the bounties of our land. The Committee has planted thousands of trees and shrubs for wildlife benefit. We also host public information programs on wildlife habitat improvement, fishpond construction and management, deer and wild turkey hunting, and strive to promote better relationships between hunters and landowners. We host monthly black powder shoots at the nearby National Muzzle Rifle Association range at Friendship. The Committee was instrumental in the reintroduction and release of the wild turkey to southeastern Indiana in the mid-1980's and the recent reintroduction of river otters in southern Indiana.
