High schoolers present to middle schoolers
Play focuses on teen issues
Students from Milan, South Ripley, Jac-Cen-Del, Batesville and Oldenburg Academy presented a play “Stand Up Change Teen Statistics” about issues youth face every day at Batesville High School Tuesday. It is a tough play with tough issues: underage drinking, substance abuse, sexual pressure, peer pressure, cutting, parent disapproval, bullying, and body image.

The high school students presented a play about tough decisions to the four middle schools in the county on Tuesday at Batesville High School.
After the 45-minute play, students from all four Ripley County middle schools and Oldenburg Academy were divided into groups and attended workshops presented by the STAAND (Students Taking Action Against Negative Decisions) students. The teens, chosen by their schools, commit to being leaders at school and in the community. They’ve been working on the play and workshop since November, under the guidance of Amy Phillips of Milan, the STAAND coordinator.
