John T. Schwering
John T. Schwering, 53, of Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016, after a car accident in Ripley County. John was born on October 4, 1963, in Greensburg, the son of Samuel and Phyllis (Hardebeck) Schwering.
John is survived by his daughter, Erica (Brandon) Lay of Huntertown, his son, Justin Schwering of Greensburg, his mother, Phyllis Schwering of Greensburg and three brothers, Gary Schwering of Greensburg, Stephen Schwering of Louisville, KY and Michael (Kristi) Schwering of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his father.
John worked several construction jobs throughout his life, mainly doing carpentry work and welding. He loved being outdoors especially camping and fishing.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 17 from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Online condolences may be made to the family at

Linda L. Gilley
Linda L. Gilley, 78, of Versailles, passed away at 3:27 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2016 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Arthur, Illinois on October 22, 1938, the daughter of Thomas and Anna Rhoades Jean. She was married to Frank Gilley on October 28, 1955 and he survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Kevin (Michelle) Gilley, Dwayne Gilley, and David Gilley all of Versailles; two daughters, Cindy (Jay) Miller of Osgood, and Missy (Jeff) Wright of Lexington, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one brother, Tommy (Regina) Jean of Farmer City, Illinois; one sister, Sherry Jean of Rantoul, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Timothy, her grandson John Edmond Miller, and her brothers John Jean and Stewart Jean.
Mrs. Gilley was a 1956 graduate of Champaign (Ill.) High School. While raising her family Linda had jobs at US Shoe in Osgood, Crown-Zellerbach in Greensburg, the Rolling Pin Bakery in Versailles, and Madison Electronics. She was a doting mother and grandmother and also enjoyed tending to her flowers which stood out at her home on south 421 in Versailles.
Linda’s wishes were to be cremated. Funeral services were held Monday, November 14 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Rev. Charles Miller of Milan officiated and burial will be at a later date in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy Mae (Gray) Browning, age 97, of Vevay, passed away at 7:46 pm, Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 12 at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay. Samuel “Sam” Charles Hackney, age 79, of Bedford, Kentucky, formerly of Dupont, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Delmar N. Cox
Delmar N. Cox, 85, of Holton, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at the University Hospital in Louisville. He was born in the Hopewell Community near Holton on March 30, 1931, the son of Willard and Lucy Cumberworth Cox. He was married to Pearl Thompson on November 18, 1950 and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2007.
Survivors include one son, Doug (Myrna) Cox of Holton; two grandchildren, Chris Cox of Holton and Kassey Odneal of Steelville, Missouri; one great grandson, Gabriel Cox. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Delfert and Dale Cox, and his sister Gnelle Harrell.
Mr. Cox was a 1949 graduate of Holton High School. He was a livestock broker and along with his brother Delfert owned and operated Cox Brothers Livestock in Amity for several years. He was also a farmer and had worked as a buyer for the Indianapolis Stock Yards. For several years Delmar and Pearl maintained their winter home in Lake Placid, Florida where Delmar enjoyed fishing for largemouth bass. He was also an avid gardener.
Delmar was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and attended the Holton Christian Church. He was also a member of the Holton Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 17 at 11 a.m. at the Holton Christian Church with Pastor Bob McCreary officiating. Burial will be in the Holton West Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. The Holton Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Holton Christian Church or the Holton Masonic Lodge in care of the funeral home.

Eddie L. Grigsby, 83, of Scipio, a former Versailles resident, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016. Jessie E. Hamm
Jessie E. Hamm, 80, of Greensburg, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at her home. She was born in Indianapolis on September 8, 1936, the daughter of Frank and Edith Odom.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Angie) Hamm, and Mark (Anna) Hamm both of Pittsboro; two daughters, Patricia (Joe) Hampton, and Katherine (Terry) Fenley both of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two brothers, Homer Odom and Harry Odom both of Indianapolis; one sister, Ann (Bill) Taylor of Plainfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Rocky Hamm, her grandson Jimmy Ray Keeton, her sisters Rosie Cheeks and Helen Anderson, and her brothers Bob Carnes and Frank Marcum.
Mrs. Hamm was a homemaker and had worked as a cook at Frank & Marys in Pittsboro. In her spare time Jessie enjoyed tending to her flowers, sewing, crafts, and was an avid reader.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Marble Corner Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Ima Jean Cox Cook
Ima Jean Cox Cook, 81, of Osgood, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Manderley Health Care. She was born on March 19, 1935 in Litt Carr, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Riley J. Parks and Ora Hylton Parks. Ima Jean married Earl Cox on September 5, 1953. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1990. She married Carlos Cook on November 10, 2002, who also preceded her in death on September 30, 2008.
Ima Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. She was a member of Big Creek Old Regular Baptist Church in Dupont. Ima Jean enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Pamela (Mike) Johnson of Osgood; Carol (Ed) Rudolph of Versailles; Tony (Marilyn) Cox of Osgood; and Cheryl White of Madison. Also surviving are her brothers Wayne Mullins of Amburgey, KY, Billy (Connie) Mullins of Amburgey, KY; and her sister, Josephine (David) Mullins of Whitesburg, KY; along with her 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Klusman; brothers, Randell Parks, Albert Mullins and Rohndall Mullins; and sister, Maxine Franklin.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with funeral services following. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Memorials may be given to the Forest Hill Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is entrusted with arrangements.
